Default Tune needed w/ new gears and TC?

I have a 2002 Z28 A4 with Kooks LT & ORY and Magnaflow catback with a lid, getting AFR heads and cam.

Do I need a tune after I get the gears and TC assuming I had a tune after I got the cams/heads/header installation?

Thanks,
Greg

Most definitely. Your shiftpoints will especially need to be altered, amongst other things.... Best wishes. WJ

The speedo will also need to be recalibrated.

Newbie here,

Is a tune needed with new gears and a torque converter?

Thanks!

Your speedometer and odometer will be off until corrected either with the SLP module, a hand held tuner (HPP3/Predator/etc.), or tuning software (HPTuners/LS1Edit/etc).

If your car is an A4 the shift points will also be whacked until corrected.

The torque converter doesn't require tuning, but raising the misfire thresholds can help with it slipping in/out of lockup if that's a problem after the install.

Cheers,
Bad30th

Default Stall converter-is a tune necessary?

Do you need a tune after installing a stall converter?

Will a TCI Streetfighter 3000 be enough stall for me?

I had to with mine because I did not like the way it shifted. Are you getting a shift kit?

Yes the stall will set a dtc for multiple misfires and it will unlock randomly

personally i would at a minimum get tuned for wot shifting...some cars end up having slight stalling issues after converters as well as minor other issues...personally the only issues i ran into with my 3500 stall was the shifting problems as the shifts apparently came on too quickly for the computer and it would hit the limiter on the 2-3 shift.

I think you should look at a 3500 at the smallest.

Tune isn't always nessacary, but it really depends on the combination.

It's really not necessary unless you determine that you don't like how your tranny is performing. I had some tuning done on mine before the TC because I didn't like the factory shift points. I positively hated the stock A4/2.73 programming.

I have an 01 Z28 with a Y3000 2.0STR, coupled to 3.73:1 rearend gears, I definetly needed tuning after the install, my TM had to be deleted, and my shift points changed and idle raised.

And in your year vehicle the TM will need to be deleted.

Like wilwaxu said, get at least a 3500 for your car especially since you have a cam. Because you have a 2002 LS1 you will likely need TM deleted and shift points raised a little. This can be done with Predator, LS1 edit or you can have it done via tune at a good speed shop.

Good luck

Stock shift points will make it feel a tad to loose. A good scaling of the shift points along with WOT points will make the stall come alive. You might also run into TM issues if you remain untuned. Judging by your mods with the LT's ect it could already use a tune since the ARF in most cases will be off.

You should read the Converter shaking post. I just installed/had installed a 3200 vig and believe the lockup for this converter needs to be changed in the program of the car. It doesn't happen often and when it does you will notice a light shimmy in the tranny. I believe the tcc needs to be tuned in the tranny section of your tuner.
