Default HP Tuners vs. EFI Live

this is a PUBLIC poll... please do not vote w/out posting .... a simple "I bought xxx cause that's all I knew about" or "I bought xxx because that's what all my buddies use" etc... is fine

if you vote "other" please explain why you went with the "other" solution

also above was a mod edit (by me... horist) .... if anyone turns this post into a flamefest they will be banned from ls1tech and this thread will be ended

Please vote...seems like these are the top two choices for tuning. Seems like they'll basically accomplish the same thing.

Which is easier to use? Also, if you dont mind, what do you like/dislike about either? Lets not turn this into a flame war.

Man these ones should be auto locked by now..

Searched the title of your post and came up with these, just looked for the locked threads and you'll find that posts like these always end up locked.

All the pros/cons are listed in those threads listed above, if you need more both have websites to further investigate the benefits of either set up.

FYI .. I am leaving this open ..... it's a public poll... so I expect everyone who votes to reply w/a post....

Let's keep this civil.... no bashing of either product please ....

if you vote and don't feel like replying please at least post something like "i just like what I bought"

edit: reason for my vote: (edit two... i didn't specify my vote specifically... but it's for HP tuners)

1. I enjoy helping out fellow enthusiasts... so the HP Tuners licensing model is awesome for me... at our club (MFBA) track rentals I'll make changes to peoples PCMs for free in hopes that they run a better number

2. The scanning software rocks! (V2.0 is 10x above rocks .... would take me a few pages of typing to list the reasons why i love V2.0 for scanning alone)

3. The tuning portion is easy to use (I'm an LS1Edit convert also ... My knowledge of the PCM has increased 10 fold thanks to how intuitive HP Tuners is)

4. HP tuners support is awesome.... 90% of the time I get a response from HPT the same day (24 hours from email = 1 day)

5. I own a GM V6 and a GM V8 ... being able to tune both of my cars with 1 package ... i like my GTP is running a 3.4" pulley, FWI, and that's it... yet I'm getting zero KR thanks to the scanning and tuning capabilities

6. within the year I plan on replacing my GTP w/a used 05 GTO ... the fact that HP Tuners provides 05 LS2 support is great (It's been available to tuners for several months... once the new hardware is released it'll be available to everyone)

7. Now that HP Tuners will be supporting Ford and Dodge/Chrysler.... (i'm more concerned w/Ford) .... I have lots of friends with Mustangs.... will be nice to be able to help them out

8. The scanner integration w/the tuner software makes tuning almost too easy (defined histograms, custom histograms, etc.... they map to existing PCM tables .... tuning is now a copy/paste procedure heh)

9. EIO (enhanced input/output) ... having 4 inputs ( I only use 2 now.... Wideband and Fuel pressure) and 2 outputs (I'll be using nitrous again next year.. nice to have outputs I can use and program (pretty easily) so I no longer need a TPS switch or RPM switch/Window switch)

10. time for bed have an early morning meeting for work... so I'll leave my list at this

I like efi live scanning software. Never seen the tuning software. But once I saw Hptuners after seeing LS1 edit I was sold

I started using efilive at version 5 since then I have been sold. I now have flashscan and will never look back. Efilive has all the tools and histograms maps to make tuning ve and spark easy. I had ls1edit before and there is no contest.

HPT2.0 is awesome for me due to my lack of knowledge tuning. I have learned a lot from the help file as well as the in-program help that shows up as you tweak any parameter. Love the software, favorites menu is sweet and the compare feature helps you keep on top of your recent edits as well as seeing someone else's tune. HP Tuners is quality in my book.

I have seen and used both programs. In HPTuners the program was thought out really well. And everything you need is right there. The new version has the ability to compare files, when you are tuning your car yourself that will be one of the biggest features you will use.

For me it was between EFI and HPTuners, initially I got the HPtuners because it was cheaper and alot of people were talking about it since the EFI Flashscan was not out at the time.

I still like LS-1 edit, other being PCM locked, it gets the job done

Also because it was out at the time

EFI Live. Great software, easy to use. And the best part is the flashscan.

efi live.....similar to windows explorer viewing of folders and heard it was a great scanning tool. A friend (very respected now thanks to his TB's) has both HP Tuners and EFI LIVE and he uses efi live to scan and hptuners to tune because of ease of use. I can't afford both and i can learn how to browse and find tables to tune, so I had an easy way of scanning and viewing whats going on with the car

I love my efi live....getting her going now and I understand what to do now

efilive. flashscan and a lot of other features of the product just simply kicks ***. The free custom OS's for SD and boosted guys are definately a plus in my book

I agree.

I have EfiLive, HP Tuners and LS1Edit.
EfiLive's custom OSs are a huge PLUS.
Tuners new 2.0+ looks great - haven't used it much.
gameover has been a BIG help to many on this board - Thank You!!

HP Tuners all the way.

I'm sure EFI Live is a great product, but at the time, it was way cheaper for me to buy HP Tuner to do multiple cars than EFI Live.

The more choices, the better for us consumers!

efilive 100%
Custom OS with dual spark maps for SD mafless tuning is cool.. and free for flashscan users! Also table 3647 to command any AFR for RPM vs MAP in open loop is nice. No need for MAF's or O2's if thats your fancy.
