Default preditor questions / opinions

can anyone tell me some info on the preditor computer system? would you recommend it? what can be adjusted and how helpful is it? i was thinking about going with a 180 deg therm., im not looking to keep it that cold. does that sound good? what kind of HP should i beable to expect from this? thanks

I've been having fun with mine. You
need to know whether you will want to
tweak everything (LS1-Edit) or just
the usual things. My opinion is that
a car that's just bolt-ons (like mine
and like yours, from the looks of it)
can get by with the simple solution.

On mine I have adjusted the fans, the
transmission pressure & decision time
(big difference here, almost worth the
price by itself), and diddled the spark
& fuel to operate just short of onset of
knock retard (which is my notion of where
MBT, maximum best torque, lies).

I don't think the lower Tstat is what you
want, the fans are more important. Set them
right and the Tstat will hold water temp
at 194F. Leave them factory set and the
fans don't even come on until 210F. So you
get a lot of temperature creep at idle,
just what you don't want when the light
turns green. The radiator needs to be 10
degrees colder than the Tstat, then the Tstat
can do its job.

At 194F coolant temp I can go to full (at
least, all the Predator will allow) spark
and zero enrichment (above the canned
performance tune, which enriches I believe).
I went to +0.5% just for a little luck, see
only an occasional KR "blip" at part throttle
light load now, never at WOT.

One thing I've found the Predator useful at,
is, I rubber-band it to my steering wheel
and put it in real time monitoring mode.
Right below my speedo, it sits in my field
of vision and I can look at things under
different driving conditions (something the
manufacturer says not to do - lawyers etc.).

Whether or not it'll gain you any HP, kind
of depends on how well you're already set
up for your mods, how your PCM has learned,
all that kind of thing. But the thing has
me pretty happy. I haven't been to the dyno
or track, don't know any quantitative before/
after. But I did get to fix a couple of things
that really annoyed me about the car (auto
shifting behavior) and from what I've seen it
has more range of tuning control than what I
need to use. And simply installing the canned
performance tune was very night & day for
street driving.

There's some folks who just weren't impressed
with theirs at all. I'm a happy camper,
whittling away.

I am also happy with mine, like jimmyblue said, the shift changes alone were worth it for me. I still am looking for that optimum mix of spark and fuel, but the predator program made a difference. You can also adjust rev limiter and shift points as well as noted above.

That's great. Either of you guys running a stall converter, or other-than-stock gear ratios? Best wishes. WJ.

I like mine too. I dyno Saturday so I can't tell you how much HP I gained, but I noticed a difference. (most people report 12rwhp) I do like what it does for the automatic shifting. I understand it gets rid of the 1st to 4th shift your 6sp has. And my car stays at 195 now with the stock thermo. But I still plan to install a 180. Hope that helps.

Anybody know how much it costs, where a good place to get it is, why they make one for the '99 Camero, but not the '99 Firebird, and if that includes Trans Ams?

They make it for both F bodies. Just not the '98 cars. Check out the Daiblo Sport site to your right. WJ.
