Default Corvette (or F-bodies) laptop mounts

I tried the search, but it doesn't appear to be working, so I'm making a new thread.

Show me your laptop mounts!

I bought a Jotto desk but modification was required to make it fit.

RAM mount or Jotto desk (google) are the best now... I'm about to go to bed, but if I remember I'll post pics of my setups (I have had both, use a RAM mount now)

This topic has come about alot... ashame the search SUCKS SO MUCH HERE ....

there's so much valuable information on this site... yet the SEARCH SUCKS!

^^^^Pics would be awsome.

I have heard it is bad to have the laptop on the passenger seat while driving.

I would tend to agree. I don't think hard drives would like that bumpy ride, especially when trying to read or write. No direct experience but I think you are right!

I have the RAM Ram-vb-106-sw1 but it sat too high for my liking so I shortened the mounting tube and threaded rod by 2" but other than that its great.

Hard drives are pretty sturdy these days.
I doubt the laptop mount is any more less bumpy then the padded seat.
Its more of a convenience of having the laptop accessible.

Ram mount. I like the Idea of shorting it some. A little too high.

^^^exactly what I have

I don't mind the height... main thing I dislike about the ram mount is that I can't close the display....

ram mount hold the laptop alot better than my joto desk did... but joto desk allowed me to close the display

According to the Ram website thye have new mounts that allow you to close the lid but I've not seen them anywhere.

http://www.ram-mount.com/mount/ram_tough_tray.htm

I lowered mine a little more yesterday and cut the innter tube another 1.5" off it. Now with the lid open I can actually see the passenger side mirror yay! Mine sits just above the center console at its lowest and the highest setting its about the same as the original Low setting.. lol.

Here is a pic of mine in the poisition I leave it in when I'm driving. If I'm using it at a stop I pull it closer and it acualy hits the center console storage lid.

And the position I slide it into when I'm using it..

Also I have a 400w inverter hard wired to the car under the pass seat and I'm going to make a tray for the HPT interface to sit in on the ram mount too.

also have attached 2 pics of the mounting base tube heights I cut mine down to.

I just leave my laptop on the seat. If I don't want it for some reason I just record on the HP Tuners box. The stands are cool but if you want to lower your race weight it's just something extra to take out. I think the biggest benefit would be the downward angle to fight sun glare. Sorry I can't add product advice but just some thoughts.

I've used my Jotto for years and love it. Bought it from Afterthoughts and couldn't be happier.

I don't use mine for just tuning. I daily drive it and take it on long trips and stuff I have a GPS for the laptop and use it as an mp3 player as well. Works much better than leaving the laptop on the passenger seat but I do agree at the 1/4 mile might as well use the HPT interface to get datalogs of runs. it would be much lighter and less to worry about.
