'97 LT1 Gauge Cluter Swap into '95 LT1 Seatbelt light problem
Okay so heres the deal, I swaped a newer '97 digital odometer style gauge cluster into my '95 trans am.
The seatbelt light will not go off. It starts out bright when the seatbelt is unlatched and then it dims when the seatbelt is latched.
I've tested the convenience center and do get the appropriate 5-8 second chime when turning the ignition to run without the seat belt latched and the LH door shut.
I have also tested the seatbelt switch by unplugging the harness. The indicator lamp goes from bright to dim.
I know that the newer gage cluster uses a LED instead of a bulb. I also know that the newer gage cluster is used in cars with the body control module, my car does not have this because it is OBDI. I wonder if one of those two factors is causing the problem because the indicator lamp works fine with my old cluster.
I would lso like to add that I have tested a different '97 v6 gage cluster to eliminate the possibility of a faulty gage cluster.
There must be some kind of short cause a lower voltage signal to pass through the indicator bulb circuit making the light stay on.

I went through the diagnostics in the manual, removed the audio alarm control module from the convenience center under the driver's side dash and then checked the terminals from the seat belt switch behind the driver's seat. With the module removed, I'm getting 12 volts on the black/white wire (seat belt indicator signal circuit 238). According to the flow chart I have a short to ground in the black/white wire. This wire also connects to the Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module behind the glove box.
Looks like I'd have to tear apart the passenger side dash, center console, driver's seat and the carpet on the driver's side to inspect this black and white wire for a short to ground.
