Default 2000 trans am side pipes

i was reading threads about some people wanting side pipes on their 4th gen's and of course there were more people calling it a bad idea than that would like them so i fab'd some up for my car and became a member of ls 1 tech to give an idea of what it looks like eventually i will get a camera that can handle the sound so you can also hear it

well now you can never lower the car, because you would drag over anything with those.

Welcome to the site, nice to see someone trying something different, I just think for most it's the ground clearance issue after lowering more then anything else.

I understand wanting the exhaust to come out in front of the back tires, but could the rest of the pipe not get tucked back underneath the car any further? Real issue is there is just not a lot of room underneath these cars for exhaust. Like Daniel said, it is nice to see something different though.

I like the look of it. I'll be interested to see how the plastic trim just above it holds up with the heat exposure.

There was someone on here who did side pipes on their Trans Am and cut out a slot in the side skirts so they could tuck the pipe more. I like the concept, keep tinkering with it and keep posting pics!

Now that looks good on both those cars, you said sidepipes and all I could think of was the old chrome hooker styles that run the length of the rocker on the outside

i actually still have about 6 inches of clearance in the center of my car so the 1.5" lowering i was going to do may not end up a problem unless i start driving around orange county and i was also going to get taller tires for the rear to help make the front look lower

the side skirts seam to be taking the heat just fine it has been a few hundred miles with them and still no melting but at that i have the exhaust slightly tucked into the skirts so i had to cut most of the bottom off of them

haha i am thinking chrome pipes running the entire length, but i feel the would need to be bent to resemble the original curve of the rocker and pipe bending is not my forte'

That was my first thought, also.

Honestly, I think sidepipes were cool in 1970, but their time has come and gone.... and unless you've got a car from that era, they look really out of place on anything more modern.

Great point. In my mind, our cars are more like a 1970's car than a 2010's car. lol Take out the airbags, throw a carb on the engine, and trade something magnetic for all our aluminum and I think it would be hard to tell if the car was from the 70's or not!

Our cars's bodys are far too rounded. Easy to tell they're from the 90s.

They aren't too far off the design of their 1960's mother:

Two doors, seats, steering wheel, motor, flip up lights, tires. Yep, it's a dead ringer for a fourth gen alright.

Looks more like side-exit exhaust rather than side pipes. Side pipes ran along the outside of the car (Think 70's Corvette).
