I found a solution to fix the isolation relay for 1982-1992 that can't be purchased because GM does not make them any more and you can't get after market parts for the isolation relay that makes both headlights go up and down. I had that problem for two years now and finally it was solved by http://hoffmanautomotive.net/. They are located in Buffalo NY, 716-856-7000, and Morrie Hoffman fabricated the isolation relay for my 1985 Firebird Trans Am and now my head lights go up and down like they are supposed to. Tell him Jim who owns the white Trans Am referred you,.. Morrie Hoffamn is an electrical savant, good luck!!!!

I was wondering if anyone knows how to delete the automatic headlights on my 01 TA. I park in the garage and the damn lights come on and open every time I start the car. I would be tickeled if it were just a fuse I could pull to disable this system. I would also like to disconnect the traction controll. Thanks all, at least I'm happy with the power, so far.

still having a grinding problem even after replacing the driver side gear and it grinds louder than ever. any suggestions?

Assuming that the new gear isn't stripped, the motor may be cocked to the side. Did you tighten the tabs so theirs no play?
Also make sure the cover is still glued on.

just be sure you read his whole install page and also make sure you punch those lil tabs in good before you re-install....

Just wanted to throw a suggestion out there for all the people that have had to turn their "gear" in their motor 180 degrees. the video the OP has posted on his first post, shows taking the motor out and turning the gear. HOWEVER, you do not even need to remove the motor from the car to do this. Just remove the entire headlight assembly like shown in the video, then use the manual lower/raising **** on top of the motor, and watch the gear pinion to make sure that it turns a complete 180. THIS will in turn technicaly rotate the gear 180 degrees, eliminating the removal of the motor and popping the cover off. just an afterthought as i just did it the long way

Does anyone know where the cheapest place to buy the whole headlight motor would be?


I put in a new plastic gear a few weeks ago and it just started grinding again already. What could make it wear out so fast?

if you would have read brent frankers page you would have read that there are 4 tabs around the base of the housing and the metal motor casing itself. these must be tapped back in, this play on the motor causes your gear to hit the worm drive at an angle ( I.E. Stripping your gear )...

Assuming you did tighten the motor tabs down, it can still strip the teeth off the gears simply because the motor is not shutting down when it's supposed to. The motor brain has to sense an increase in amperage to recognize when it's fully open or closed and over time it just doesn't get the right signal. Swapping in a new motor will usually fix the problem. I'd also recommend cutting out the wire connector between the motor and the brain and connecting the wires directly. That way, a bad contact will be eliminated.

UPDATE:

I FINALLY got my AutoLoc HID kit for my LMC housings.

The good news is the bulbs are straight base so I won't need to modify the headlight housing buckets.

The bad news is I won't be able to install them for at least a week. Work is picking up-good thing as I need a new rear end..DOH!
