My driver's side headlamp motor would work sometimes and not work others. Mostly it wouldn't work. Noticed the motor was coming apart and found one online for $100. Put it in and it still didn't work. Took a closer look as to whats going on and found what you see in the picture.

Thats the connector on the body harness side to the drivers headlamp. Lots of corrosion and if you look at the second one in from the right, its partiall missing. The tab that comes out and contacts the pin on the motor harness connector is gone.

Anyone know if you can buy that connector from GM? Part number?

F#%k that connector. Get some butt splices and wire it directly.

Yep I replaced the OEM connector with some spade connectors so I can disconnect it if I need to.

Default stupid headlights!

i just got a question. well the gear on my headlight finally stripped out, so they go up and then when they go down you can hear it grind. but how come now when i lock or unlock my car, the headlights will flip up and down? its driving me crazy!!

From what I've read, that's the sure indication of the stripped gear.
My understanding is, replace the gear, and the up/down stuff will stop.

Yea mine did the same exact thing... just replace the gears and you'll be good. It's pretty easy but get the kit that has the metal t-plate. Makes it much easier and more secure.

Disconnect the arm from the motor (one 10 mm bolt), then use the manual dial to rotate the gear within the motor by 180 degrees, and re-attach the arm. If this 'fix' has not been done previously, then you will have just doubled the life of your stripped gear, by now using the previously used portion of the teeth.

If this does not resolve the problem, then replace the gear.

Good luck!

obviously done with the headlight raised? my drivers side is doing what the OP's is doing. how do you know when you've rotated it 180 manually to then reattach the arm?

i was under the impression you had to remove the headlight motor assembly in order to rotate the gear 180. thanks.

Default Headlights out of sync

Searched everywhere, haven't found a solution yet.

Replaced driver's side headlight motor today as the gear was stripped. The problem now is the driver's side headlight goes up when you turn the lights off, and it goes down when you turn the lights on. I swapped the wires around to make sure I didn't have anything backwards, same issue. Pulled the fuses to get the lights in sync, same issue. Pulled the plugs to "reset" the headlight brain as suggested, same issue.

Any suggestions? Any chance this is the wrong headlight motor? Please PM as I'll get the response faster that way.

Solution: When installing the new motor, the headlight switch needs to be in the "On" or "Up" position, otherwise the computer thinks the light is up, when it's actually down. That's the only thing I can think of what caused the lights to be out of sync.

thanks for the sticky. i just tried the free fix. it used to make the noise when the lights would close. i flipped 180 and it makde the noise while raising, not lowering. i switched it back so now it makes the noise when lowering. time for a new gear. oh well, worth the 15 min invested...

Mine is currently doing it now haha. I just lock my doors manually before leaving the car and that stops it from doing anything, but the alarm doesn't get armed that way. I turned my gear 180 and that didn't fix my problem so I will probably just need to replace the motor. I think dealing with the noise is worth saving the money for now though haha

Just invest in the metal gear kit.. it's really cheap and only takes maybe an hour to repair both headlights.
I had to do it to mine in May..
