Best way to get HP ws6
#7
lid = airlid
Replace your stock airlid for an aftermarket one and pick up around 10 hp.
Don't feel bad...I was a newbie too a few weeks ago and was wondering the same thing after I bought a LS1...
Can't answer the HP questions...it'll depend on various factors...I'll leave that to more experienced LS1er's...
Good luck!

Don't do heads until you have a cam. Or you can just do both at once. But you don't really want a cam until you have headers. You don't HAVE to do it this way, but it is smart.
This is the order I plan on doing it since I got my LS1 pretty recenly
free mods
lid
long tube headers and y-pipe and cutouts all at once
gear
cam
heads
who knows what else?
