GT vs GXP

GT vs GXP
I am buying a G8 for a everyday fun car. Is the extra 10,000 grand worth the difference for a DD. R can simple bolt-ons and a cheatr cam make the GT faster than the GXP.

Well for one, do you want manual or an auto? Can you deal with not having huge brembo brakes and an LS3?

The regular G8 isnt even an ls2.. or ls3.. its a bastardized motor, cant even call it an LS, just an L76. Even with bolt ons and a cam your looking at barely 400rw if even that. You would need a better set of heads too. And This is through an automatic.
The GXP model gives you the Ls3 and already makes 380rw... So for 10k more you save yourself the hassle get an actual LS motor with an ls3 and L92 heads. The Ls3 motor itself from GM costs about $6,500.....
Save the headache the cam and bolt on money and just buy the GXP, you will regret it when you are getting your *** drug by every cammed light weight LS1.
Also I dont think with all the mods and bolt ons, you would need a big cam to beat a stock GXP
And with a Cam in the LS3 you can easily get 480rw. with easy drivability.
If you want to talk about it more feel free to PM me.

Of course you can. With the retuned suspension, ppl can barely get the GXP to hook, ppl are barely getting into the 13s with them. BTW the L76 is an LS3 block just less cubes, smaller cam, and lower rise lifters for DOD. Same block, heads, and intake. Can some else chime in as well just in case I missed something. I would blow the doors off of a GXP with my setup, and its just bolt ons.

I’m gonna have to side with ddcook07, I've seen a GT hit 11 flat with just a twin turbo and a converter (obviously not your DD setup, but it still did it) and that’s the difference in price between the GT and the GXP. With the GXP, their not even getting below 13's with some in the low 14's, thats just sad; I was really lookin fwd to the GXP but its not impressing. I just cant bring myself to getting an automatic muscle car.

Not worth the difference. For what you would pay extra for the GXP you could put the Livernois DOD delete kit ($1200) with a decent cam, a Maggie($6000) and a tune. No GXP would come close...

The L76 has the EXACT same heads (L92) as the LS3.
The L76 has the EXACT same intake (LS3) as the LS3.
The L76 has the EXACT same throttle body (90mm drive by wire) as the LS3.
The L76 uses an LS block and is a whole .2 liters smaller than the LS3.
The major difference between the two engines is the displacement difference (.2ltr) and the DoD/AFM on the L76. The cam in the L76 is 200/208 .472"/.476".
Now, teacher, can you tell me what the difference between the two engines would be if they both had the same cam?

If the G8 Gt's are only dynoing say 320rw... and the Ls3 GXP dynos 370rw... Say Toss in an Lg cam say the G6x3.. The Gxp has potential with the 6spd to make 450rw with a tune. as opposed to maybe 380rw for the auto GT. Assuming the GXP is the same ls3 i have i would assume it would make almost the same amount of power

The L76 has Displacement on Demand/ Active Fuel Management. It shuts off the oil flow to the lifters on 4 cylinders so they do not operate those valves. Effectively making it a 4 cylinder under light load.
You can put a mild cam in the L76 and replace the DoD system with normal parts.
Livernois has a thread here where they did this work to a GT and it's putting down 441 at the wheels.

Thanks for the help I have the GT at home right now and im taking the GXP home tommorrow night but I think the GT is for me I already have a corner curver with the vette so with them being so close in a drag race the GT seems the way to go because I can install parts myself to get rid of the DOD

GT comes with only an A6 Auto. The GXP can be had with either the A6 or M6.

Those LS2s out there that did the L92 head swap and cam upgrade are pretty good engines, right?
Same deal here, just add cam.
