Default Gas Cap

Anyone replaced theirs yet? Mine just started messing up and i'm about to get it replaced. Should i just call my local GM dealer and ask them about it or is there an easier way to handle this?

What year is your GTO? There was a notice that was sent out to owners a few years ago. I never got one and I knock on wood has never had a issue with mine. Here is a the letter that was sent out. Hope this helps.

The gas caps on these cars are a joke, mine didn't pass CA smog because it was not making a good seal and i had to replace it. It threw a cel not to long ago and it never feels like it is making a good seal. I think i'm just going to try an auto parts store cap next.

Go to your local parts place and spend a whopping $8 for a replacement...

I guess I should keep an eye out for my gas cap. my goat has only 6k miles on her, but from all these posts about their crapping out super early in the car's life has me on edge.
GM can make one hell of an old school pushrod motor, but apparently their gas caps are made with bubble gum and twine.

Common well known problem with these cars. I agree it is a joke.

I've replaced mine once already, with the GM replacement.. it doesn't do a great job either though, and it's only been on the car for 5,000 miles or so..
