Default PBM Always Dirty

Does any other Phantom Black Metallic GTO owner feel like their car is always dirty no matter what? Sometimes it feels like no matter what it isn't clean. I was thinking about going with a straight gloss black. Opinions?

Typical for a black car. When I sold my Formula I swore that would be my last black car, too hard to keep clean and way too hot in the summer. Two years later I bought PBM GTO.

I wash it, back it into the garage, and it is already dirty.

Sure is beautiful, though. ;-)

I've found that between waxings that McGuire's Ultimate Quick Detailer seems to help keep the dust off. I use it after washing...not in place of it.

Gloss black shows dirt too. It's the contrast of the dark to dust that makes it show. White is one of the easiest to keep clean. IMHO the metal flake helps hide the dust more than a straight color.

also, i know i'm not a black car owner, but if your issue is dust, get a california car duster. if it is in a garage dust will still get on it and make it look like ****. wipe it down with the duster and it looks freshly washed again

Me too. I just make washing it a weekend early a.m. ritual.

Exactly right. I have both my cars parked side by side in the garage. After a day the Impala is visibly dustier than the goat. But yeah California duster is your friend. The dirtier it is the better it works.

I know black is a color that tends to always be dirty, but I feel like pbm is even more so!

California Dusters will swirl your paint. Do NOT use them.

And MBM is nearly as hard to keep clean...

There's a reason that after owning a PBM, I bought a silver truck.

[QUOTE=Robofuzz;15419492]California Dusters will swirl your paint. Do NOT use them.[QUOTE]

If I had a dime for everytime I heard this...

This might be true if you do not wax as often. My Impala is over 15 years old now and I can tell you there are no swirl marks from my duster. Admittingly it has only been clay barred twice (in the front) and waxed several hundred times. The key to using the duster is to float the ends over the paint in one direction. Do not rest the weight of the duster and sweep it over the paint. The other factor to swirl marks is the actual washing and waxing. Care must taken on what you use to soap down the body, and when drying it off with a chamois. Trust me when I say some of us black car owners are quite **** at producing mirror like finishes on their cars at car shows. Ask any Zaino owner....

On the California Duster - do you really think that something that traps dust and dirt in its fibers and is then wiped back across your paint repeatedly doesn't swirl your paint?

I'm not saying I don't use one at car shows, in fact I do. I'm just saying you need to be really careful using those and toss them after a relatively short time.

My GTO stays inside the garage under a cover, it rarely gets washed. But often gets the spray wax treatment ( Surf City Brothers ) then back under the cover.

I love the California Duster, I have 1 in each of our cars, even though my wife never uses it and gives me grief about using it so often....I have yet to see a single swirl from using the duster. ( I have used them since 97, if i get a new car , i get another duster to stay in it. )

Buffing and washing with dirty water and mitt is what causes swirls. And lack of quality wax. I would NEVER buff a black car. That's just me though.

unless you are using it when your car is covered in gobs of dust its not going to swirl your paint.
