Default 10 worst things about your GTO

I know nobody HATES their GTO, but if you had to nit-pick, what would you change about it?

I have only heard praise for the car since I've been researching them. Which would lead a normal person to believe that they are PERFECT. Well, from my experience, the general dosen't make perfect cars...

gimme a reason NOT to buy a GTO. (...right now, there isn't much anyone can say to make me change my mind)

I love the car from what I've seen and read (haven't driven one yet) I just wanna be sure the goods still outweigh the bads...

TIA,
Mike

Weight and IRS but I'm more drag minded. What you give up though at the track you get back on a day to day basis.

1. Weight
2. IRS (For its weight and its launch)
3. Small Wheelwells
4. Your head is close to the A-pilar
5. Factory Shifter
6. Slow Power Seat
7. Gas tank takes up trunk space
8. Flower Power wheels
9. Tires from the factory
10. The 04 Autos run 14s

The weight is the main thing.

Other thoughts
Lack of gauges

i can only think of a few.

Its slow I mean mid 13's in a ls1 isn't to bad but i'm just used to faster. I have an ls1 car and i've driven the ls2 car and they are not as fast as i had expected. Its sad that my front wheel drive family car will blow its doors off. Yeah you can mod it this and that and spend another 5 grand or so on top of the mid20 to low 30 price tag but does it really seem worth it. Then again i bought this car as a nice day cruiser as opposed to driving my truck or my loud and an annoying grand prix. It does have comfy seats and a pretty decent radio though.

Its way to heavy. It needs to loose about 500lbs or so. that would probably help with complaint number one. I'm not talking about making it a light weight race car but some examples are the extremely heavy and unneeded kangaroo killing plate bolted to the subframe in the front.

I wish my gauges would work right. 6 times and 4 clusters. Gee you think that is not the problem.

Trunk is useless. i don't even keep the spare tire in much anymore so i have a little extra room.

Its a gas pig. My car is a nice day car so i don't really care but gas mileage could be better.

I almost forgot. The slow power seats. I love how people have to weight ten mins for the seat to move foward to get into the back seat.

1.Weight
2.Price
3.Simple boring plain blah look...looks like a grand prix or a g6
4.The fact that the kid who kept calling my girlfriend had one for 8 days and totaled it. F-ing idiot haha
5.Overall I'm just not impressed GM kind of ruin the happy thoughts I had about the older GTOs. Silly looks, some performance is there but for a GTO i expected much better, and the price.

wheel wells KILL almost any possibility to eliminate "flower power" wheels. That'd be my number one. I'd love big *** tires in the rear, 315's or so, not on the GTO thought.

Some good points but you'd be nit-picking. I removed about 200 lbs. from my '05. There reasons for some of the others like tires, wheels, and manual shifters. But like most enthusiasts those are usually replaced.

Yeah, shifter blows.
Other than that, I love it!
Im sure if we were all rich and owned Ferrari's we could find something to gripe about.
You either like it (thats why you bought it) or you dont.

1. small trunk due to some dumbass govt regs
2. slow front seats/poor rear seat access
3. poor defroster performance
4. weight
The rest can be fixed easily and cheaply

I don't own a GTO, but I have seriously considered selling my Bird for one. The two things that stick out to me are the slow-*** power seat, and the useless trunk. There's not a whole lot you can do about either, and that's why I don't have one right now. I could care less that it weighs 3700 lbs. That can be overcome with more power. People race B-bodies (Impala SS, etc.) all the time and they weigh over 4,000 lbs. As for price, you gotta shop around. I've seen people get into a new one for under 30K, I think they are worth that. I would imagine most people buying this car use it as a daily driver, that's what I would do and those first two things would annoy me on a regular basis.

DAMN...well, I DID ask for nit-picks...

all in all, I think the goods STILL outweigh the bads by a ton...(no offense/pun intended on the weight issue, LOL)

-the weight can be overcome with about 500hp
-the price is great when you consider my other car choice of the moment(G35)
-the slow seats DO seem really bothersome, but my kid is small and she can squeeze through the crack...
-gas mileage WILL be a problem for the first month or so...(LFS-Lead foot syndrome)
-I think the car is beautiful...I like subtle though...(VZ front bumper notwithstanding)
-the trunk...ehhh, I dont golf nor do I travel heavy...(I'm just making excuses now, right!?!?!)

thanks for all the responses,
Mike

Radkon, good point on the defroster. But remember the car comes another hemispere closer to the equator than us. After driving mine through the winter the heater will not burn you up under 20F outside. It does throw heat quickly though. Faster than the eight different cars I have owned over the last few years.

P.S. Our Indepence posse has ins. on his and is estatic with the '04 after not even driving 100 miles.

Not sure of the wet weight but curb weight is about the same as the LS1 given the LS2 engine is lighter but has beefier brakes.

Between exhaust, trunk brace, spare, skid plate, wheels, and a few misc. I reduced weight a little over 200 lbs. Getting down to F-car weight! A little bit more for C5 territory.

I had the pass. seat out to haul some bulky stuff and through it on the digital bathroom scale. It weighed in a svelte 64 lbs.

The seats are awesome. They don't crack and look like **** after a year.
