Should I trade my f-body for a gto?
I like my formula and it is fast but like most f-bodies it has a lot of little
problems. Here is the list.
1 driver's visor fell off
2 both interior door panels are cracking
3 driver's side window motor is falling
4 driver's side t top leaks around window
5 driver's side t -top has annoying squeak at plastic trim
6 power antenna motor out
I know this is nothing major but it just gets old. I'd also like to know if the gto has any issues.

I just drove my friends brand new 06 GTO, OMG I am in love. Its a NICE *** car. I would have one in a heart beat. I will never sell the SS, but I will still try to have a GOAT.

I'd say go for it as long as you don't mind a softer feel to the car and the smoother lines of the car.
The car is EXTREMELY well built, quiet, solid and the interior is far superior to F bodies... but that's cause its built by Holden and not GMNA!
You wont be disappointed as long as you like the looks of the car.

What are you waiting for? I skipped right over the F-bodies. Went right for the GTO. I have only had really small problems. Nothing that is that common. This car is fun, and easy to work on.

I traded my TA for pretty much the same reasons...Plus no A/C and headlight gears...
Well worth it for the comfort...Although the car is a lot slower, it was still the right way to go...

In a heartbeat. The GTO is a beautiful, quick, comfortable car that drives very nicely and gets reasonable fuel economy. I can't think of anything that it's a "lot slower" than. It may be "less fast" than some, but slow can't really be associated with the GTO.

We got more looks in this 06 Impulse Blue GTO than I have ever got driving an 06 Mustang GT( I work at a dealership) The GTO will stomp it too. I would say its just as fast as an F-body. I love my F-body, and would never talk down about it. THe GTO is a nicer car period, but you pay for it. I love the seating positioning too. I am keeping the SS. Its what I got and alot of fun at that.

I have a '96 Z28 and recently bought the '06 GTO...
The styling of the GTO is the biggest complaint for me, I did not buy it for looks...it is a decent looking car, but still looks too much like a cavalier for my taste. I bought the GTO because for the 30k you cannot come close with any other vehicle as far as build quality, power, upgradability.
No shakes or rattles when new like the Camaro's and '05+ Mustangs have.
Top notch interior, comfortable seating, and can hold 4 people in comfort. The seats have good positive bolsters and overall none of that retro/futuristic crap that is in the new mustangs and soon to be camaro...
400hp/T56....need not say more.
Handles much better than my Z28 with no suspension mods other than Pedders struts.
Complaints are: Cannot fit bigger than 275 tires without serious work.
Styling....
If I had a choice between a brand-new '02 or '96 camaro or the GTO, the GTO would win hands down.
As for the seating, I prefer the F-bod layed back kind of driving, the GTO is more sitting up.

The question is, what do you want from the car? The fbod is a great platform for speed; cheap, lightweight, very mod friendly, etc. The GTO is going to be more expensive, heavier, drive much nicer, and be more costly to modify. It all depends on what you're going for. The Fbody is great, you pay for performance and everything else is an afterthought. GTO is a totally different mentality. A front seat in the GTO probably weighs more than both fbody front seats.

Keep the f-body. Wait till the new camaro comes out if you want a change. Make the decision based on whether you like the style or not. Every car has problems when they get old. The reason why no one has any problems with the gto is because its only 2 years old here. IMO the f-body looks alot better

looks aside, we got plenty of guys on LS1GTO that have 60, 70K + on their cars and they are as quiet and rattle free on the inside as the day they were bought... can you say that about an F-Body

An F body is never going to be as quiet and rattle free as the GTO but the 2 main reasons why they turn into rattletraps is #1, Ttops and #2, the fact that most guys will beat the living hell out of them. On the other hand, I had a 96 SS Camaro with the rock hard level 2 SLP suspension and after 90,000 miles of powershifts it was as rattle-free as the day I picked it up. My 02 WS6 with 45,000 miles has also been a solid car with no issues whatsoever.
To the question of GTO or Fbody... If I had that many annoying problems and were shopping for a new car, I'd probably be looking at an 06 GTO myself. Afterall, you can't buy an 06 Fbody.
