Default Chassis flex *PICS*

For you guys that rant and say these cars don't require frame connectors and that they don't do much when everyone asks about them. I always disagree with you, and here's why.

Look at the hood/fender gap on the drivers side in these two pics.

This car has welded in frame connectors, Wolfe bolt in 4 point roll bar and a tower brace.

These things flex like crazy, even my hardtop car. I bet if you poked around underneath the car you would find a few tears in the sheet metal from chassis flex.

Also, those BFG's are f-ing massive for a 275. No wonder they get a penalty in NASA TT classes.

Wish I had a 11 inch rim to put them on to see what they look like.

It gets inspected pretty often, nothing like that.

Could you imagine without frame connectors and a roll bar??

I don't imagine subframe connectors would affect flex that far forward. I'm no physics expert, but it seems the flex there is within the area of the front subframe itself. Perhaps, then, a strut tower brace would help that.

He's already got a strut tower brace. There isn't much more he can do for that kind of flex.

My car looked like that when I ran 550/150 springs.

I need more spring, the left front is tearing up the inner fender well, the right front is touching the inner fender.

I will not change it, A C5 Z06 may be in my future.

I have only autocrossed 1 season so far and I'm already wanting a C5...my car went from stock with street tires to 550/150,Koni SA's, Fr+Rr bars, SFC's Strut brace, Watts link, V710's with race seat and harness all within a season. LOL Yea I went nuts and got hooked.

I only got a couple of events with ALL of the above mods but I'm already out-driving the stock diff (not like that's hard) but even riding in a C5Z I was amazed.

How much time did you pick up compared to other cars?

Sorry for the thread jack...

Probably a lot. It would be hard to say since the course always changes, but I bet the V710s alone got him 1-3 seconds depending on how large the course is. The best thing I did handling wise with my car was change to higher spring rate springs than stock. The stock springs are terrible. Now my car is going in a radical direction for the upcoming season.

A six point weld in bar might make a huge difference, but of course make it a PITA to get in and out of. I was into and around a lot of 5.0's back in the day, which are pretty loosey goosey themselves. A buddy of mine had a 600hp (stoker, blown) car with a 6 point and connectors - it was the tightest feeling 5.0 I have been in. Not sure what else can be done really. I don't think that bolt in 4 point is doing much for you flex wise.

Thanks for posting those pics BTW. Interesting.

There was a week or so when my cage was partially installed, and I had only one door bar installed. The difference that one bar made on chassis flex was absolutely amazing. Definitely do it if it's an option for you.

Exactly. That's my biggest gripe about autocross. You can't tell if you are getting better and or the mods are doing their job 100%. All you can do is try to improve your own times each time you go out.

But compared to a basically stock setup, this car is completely different. I'd be interested to drive an Fbody with higher spring rates to compare. But my stock auburn diff is hating life and bitches around RH turns.
