Default MKM ELKO TWIN 50 Open Road Race

Well after a 4-year hiatus from ORR, I finally returned this time with my 2000 Formula Firebird. 2nd place was a welcomed surprise and all the preparation paid off quite well. If anyone is interested in the combination that proved successful averaging 155 Mph both ways, join in.

Top speed 185+

1.) We had a VHS camcorder run in the test session and in both legs of the race. I need a digital conversion to post in for viewing I assume.

2.) Elko Nevada is in the northeastern corner of the state, sits right on I-80, where highway State Hwy 225 crosses, north on this road is the open road race. It is high desert between 4000 to 6000 foot elevation.

3.) Cost effective was the watchword, this is my first pass breakdown. Ask for details

I'm not seeing any '00 Formula among the entrants of the '04 Twin 50 ?? Is there some error here ? I do see an '00 Formula entrant for the '04 PE130 ( which I ran my car at in the 140 class in the GS division ) which was a DNS in the 155 GS class, is that you ? You were in the Grand Sport class if you were running a 155 target speed correct ? Just trying to make heads or tails of this that's all.

Also if you were running 185+ mph then do you have a fuel cell and a fire suppression system onboard as per MKM rules ? If you do can you tell me where you got your cell at ? I've been looking for one myself since I plan to move up in the near future. One last thing ...Tech speed for the 155 class in GS is 168 mph. If you were in the GS division how did you get around this to go 185+ mph? They have radar friggen everywhere as you know. I did squeak out 172 mph myself for a period of time and recieved a good talking to, but 185+ mph ??

I had a tulipped intake valve on #7 develope during testing on friday morning. We widthrew that night moved our entry fee to the elko race and drove home 500 miles on 7 cyclinders.

The 185 was not an issue discovered in the race's radar.

Yup 176 in practice was frowned upond. A honest miscalulation while I was calibrating rpm's for tire size and swell.
