Default How do oem Vette wheels hold up to track racing?

Thanks for the input. I'm specifically looking for the Vette rears, with sizes closest to 18x10.5. Which years/models were these on? What's a fair price to pay?

They will see serious track usage, yet likely only for 6-8 months or so.

thanks,

Steve

That size 18x10.5 came on all Z06 models. 01 to 04 The 01 Z06 wheels are a little stronger then the other years. They all hold up great for track days. You can expect to pay about $700 for a used set. The only problem is that a set would be 17x9.5 fronts 18x10.5 rears. You would have to find someone with all rears.

I have the standard Stock C5 Y2k wheels and here are my impressions. The fronts fit and work perfectly (they are a bit smaller than the stock ws6 tires at 245/45/17), for the rears I had to use a 1/4" spacer to get them to clear. One week after installing them with a spacer I broke a wheel stud (street driving no hard launches). So I installed a set of ARP longer Studs and problem solved. Under extreme cornering when the rear suspension is loaded the inner part rear tires rub a bit on the side of the fender well. It wasn't bad but after lowering the car the problem is worst, It only happens during long sweepers and occacionally in a hairpin, but I'm going to have to move up in spacer size if I want to use this tires on track days. I have the stock set of rims that I'm going to use for track days and keep the corvette rims for the street personally. But I see plenty of corvette guys at the track on stock rims during track days so it should not be a huge concern. My .02

I have seen numerous failures of the early C5 "Wagon Wheels".

Cracks formed along where the spokes meet the hub. I have seen cracks and catastrophic failures.

Not trying to be an alarmist, just watch your wheels.

Stock Z06 wheels hold up well, have mounted up to 315's on em with no problems, Always a good idea to check any wheel carefully for cracks when you put em on , some of the aftermarket Z06 wheels develop impressive cracks .
