Default Powder Coat a FAST Intake?

Hey, I bumped a thread in a regional forum... thought it was in this one. So I guess I'll ask here.

PsychoSid and I have powder coated two LS3 intakes over the last year, so we know the GM material will handle it. Thanks to some tips on this site, we knew to off-gas it for around an hour at 375DGF and that worked like a charm. To keep this thread appealing, here's my Gunmetal Grey pearl LS3 intake with clear:

However, when I called FAST to ask if the FAST intake was the same Material of Construction as GM intakes, I was not surprised to hear "I have no clue". For this reason, I'm not sure what temp to off-gas and cure a new FAST 102 upper shell I have coming in the mail.

Has anyone here powder coated a FAST 102? If so, was 375DGF alright for the material?

You might want to message DopeFedz. If I remember correctly, he powder coated a FAST in his Firehawk rebuild thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...ld-thread.html

I'll give DopeFedZ a PM, but I think he's already responded in another thread about the subject... don't know if he gave specifics around temp and cure. Thanks!

I know it can be done, and the spare upper shell is at my house now... time to sand it down and prep it, going to do Jack's blue to match my valve covers. I'm getting creative with masking, I may do the letters a different color in powder rather than paint!

Just checked out his thread and it says that he painted the intake.
Mealonwheels: What are you using to sand/ smooth the runners on the intake? I've been using my oscillating top with a really small triangular sanding pad on it. Works well but is very time consuming...

There is a low temp (flows at a lower temperature) powder used for wood and plastic.

I'm using a 220 grit pad on a palm sander. I'm going to leave it there so the powder has something to bite into, since it'll be hot flocked rather than electrically charged.

A little update, I plan to do the upper shell this weekend. I've been doing a bunch of Yeti/Ozark/RTIC cups for people locally, some of them complex enough to have a stenciled school logo with two colors and clear. That's eaten up a lot of my time, but I think I'm caught up and ready. The big question is whether I'll do multiple colors for the lettering or even runners.

Hot flocking multiple colors is a bit tricky, and I'm not sure I'll risk it on the plastic part. But it would suck to powder the intake only to paint the letters...

Thanks, man!

The coats are on, looks like glass. So, I didn't focus the sanding on the spots hidden by the rails, but some of the runners have some trash. I think it's the compressor, I do these larger parts at a shop where we have a larger oven. Overall though, it's like glass! It's a medium blue pearl called Jack's blue, same color as my valve covers.

Long time bump, I've done a few fast intakes since this one. Did one today for my belair, thought it would be nice to share. It's powder coated silver, then candy teal, then clear.
