- Dropped off the rear wheels to get some new tires mounted. If I did my math right, the Toyo T1 Sports lasted a whopping 5500 miles or so. I've never launched the car, nor done any smoky burn-outs, so I'm rather stunned that they had such a short life. Needless to say, I'm not going with another set of those! Bought 275/35-19 Indy 500s off Tire Rack. For now I'm running my other summer rear wheels; I broke one of my front Linea Corsa wheels last year, but the rears are still fine, and have nearly-new Indy 500s on them, too.
- Jacked up the passenger front and reconnected the upstream O2 sensor. Apparently I didn't snap the connector all the way together when I did the exhaust gasket at the track on Sunday, and the connector had popped apart. Started getting the P0154/P0155 on the way home from the track. I was worried I had damaged the wiring somehow, but no, I just limp-wristed the connector. In my defense, it is a pain in the *** to contort one's arm around the exhaust and back up behind the engine to reach the connector.
- Received a set of Maxxis RC-1 R-comps. They had a 20% off sale going, so I grabbed a set in 275/35-18. While they have the no-tread style of a Hankook Z214 or Kumho V710, their performance is supposed to be more like NT01s or R888s. Should work out just fine for HPDE duty.

- Reinstalled the CCW rear wheels with new Indy 500 tires.
- Fiddled around with a project that I've thought about for a long time...
I've had this hood forever and just haven't gotten off my *** to do anything with it. I really should've gotten it chopped up before the VIR event a couple weekends ago, as that track has a couple of looong straights plus the high speed Uphill Esses that I think would make it easier to see whether the vents are doing anything or not. Next event will most likely be in a few weeks @ Summit Point, which is a somewhat slower track and really only has 1 big straight.
Next step is drillin' and angle grinderin'! More discussion here.

It would seem you really have to prioritize cool air in, hot air out, or overall flow through. Once you have that priority nailed down, you can better choose location for these particular vents. Frankly, without access to a wind tunnel you're just using instinct and guessing. Sometimes that works great, sometimes it doesn't. Just for kicks...

A poor man's wind tunnel: mount some flagging tape in the air flow that you're measuring. Record the area you're measuring and you can see the airflow across the surface as the tape moves.
You could still prioritize airflow through the radiator with an under hood tray.

Gave her a much needed bath and a wax, i decided to try the meguiars paste wax, instead of a liquid wax that ive always use for years. A little extra work but i was pretty happy with the results.

Also had my ac vacumed and checked from the mechanics at work, it didnt need a complete vac, just a recovery and refill, since i was a little high on the low side from adding a can by myself

Now I got to crawl under there and see why my oil filter is dripping from my recent oil change a few weeks ago, possibly since I hand tightened it and then gave it another quarter or a half a turn with the strap wrench so I probably busted the seal

- Since I did the door trim strip along the bottom of the rear seat back (reported earlier in the thread), today I grabbed a couple "new" rear door sills at the u-pull-it yard. The ones on the car have a couple/few scratches, particularly the passenger one (since I normally remove/install the rear seat through that side), so now I have some fresh ones to install, and hopefully they'll stay fresh.
- Replaced the driver side front carpet (again). Luke @ Lindsay ordered a second replacement for me, after I sent him pics of the bare spots on the first one. Picked up the new carpet Friday during lunch - no bare patches on this one, so that's nice. Installed the aluminum dead pedal, but left my aluminum heel pads off for now.
Of course, at the junkyard today there was an '07 CTS with black carpet that looked to be in great shape. A few weeks too late, unfortunately.

Installed one of these "compass mirrors" today but mine cost $13 shipped. Took 5 minutes to install and works like a champ.

Lots of people do this mod, but I personally don't think the 7-segment display looks modern enough. There are a few options in the $200-350 range such as replacement mirrors that approximate the full-blown LCD in the 2017 CTS-V that can show GPS and back up camera feed from behind the glass. I don't like the current products because only a small area of the mirror has the display, plus it's quite expensive for what you get. In a couple of years it'll probably be worth getting.
If I had the time and wanted to strike a compromise between cost and quality, I'd probably buy a 2012+ Buick Lucerne auto-dimming/compass mirror, yank the guts out, and put it in my mirror. If the compass display is bright enough, you'll see it straight through the mirror glass. It's still a little old fashioned but not "straight outta the early 90's surburban" look.

The car is currently down for other "stuff" but I plugged it in and it immediately displayed what I felt to be the right direction and as Fuzzy pointed out, everybody does this so it should work.
