Default vortec heads on carb 350

will vortec heads work good on a carbed 350 motor and would that be a direct bolt on or wat would i have to do to make them work on that 350?

my brother just put those heads on his 350. yes they will work good. those heads flow very well. if u switched over to use hyd-roller lifters and went with something like an lt4 cam that thing would make some nice power

thats badass. I got a high rise carb intake and was wondering if that intake would bolt on to the vortec heads or would i have to change the intake for those heads

Vortec heads have a specific bolt pattern and will not accept a standard SBC intake. I bought a RPM Air-gap Vortec when I got my heads.

vortecs are pretty much a cast irom lt1 head that dont have the reverse flow cooling system,so it will work on older sbc.

You just need the intake-everything else works,
If i were to build a low buck 350 it would have a lt1-zz4 cam and ported vortec heads easy 350-400 hp

vortec heads will bolt right on to the block,
like was said the intake manifold bolt pattern on the vortec heads is different than the traditional bolt pattern so you can either have your original intake drilled to bolt to the vortecs, but the best option is just get a vortec-compatible aluminum intake for a few hundred bucks, it'll flow much better than the original intake and be worth it plus you'll save weight. just make sure to get an intake with the correct bolt pattern for the carb to mount to... either a square bore if you have or want a holley carb, or spread-bore if you have or want a quadrajet or edelbroc, etc.

the other thing with the vortec heads (any head really) is you should check the rocker arm wipe pattern on the valvestem tip once everything's bolted on, ideally you'll want to get a pushrod length checker to measure this so you will know and get the correct length pushrods. The pushrod length you'll need is dependent on the deck height and whether the heads have been milled at all.
other than that, the best way to go generally is 1.6 rocker ratio and a cam in the range of 220/230 @ 0.050" using a reasonable exhaust system with 1.625" headers.
hp books "small-block chevy engine buildups" is a good book detailing all the tech stuff with the exact parts and part numbers used to build a 350 and what the dyno shows it produced, you can get it from amazon for < $20.

does this go the same for a TBI engine? i may be looking at turning a 1993 F/S Blazer 4x4 with 5.7L TBI into a Vortec 5.7L since the TBI engine only has 50k miles on it.

the intake wont bolt up. but if you convert it to carb with the proper intake for vortec heads it will work.
