went to moulton tonight, ran a best of 8.459, consistent 8.50-8.60s... got to get some rubber under it, still pulling 2.0 and 2.1 60's... considering i'm on the stock air box, tires, etc., i'm not upset, I think with new rubber I could get 8.20-8.30s out of it right now, and obviously better with DRs... its losing a lot in the 1st 60'

I don't know if I want a DR under it or not as I drive the car quite a bit, will probably just get a really aggressive summer tire, like a Nitto NT05

I outran the new 5.0 every time we ran and that is all I wanted to do, lol

there was only 3 new 5.0s there, one which only had a catback and a short throw, which is the one who kept wanting to race me, his best time on the night was 8.70s those cars are quick out the hole but they really don't pull up top like I thought they would, he and I played on the highway on the way home and it wasn't nearly as quick from 40 as I thought it would be... another was decently quick car trapping mid 90s, and the other was a new 5.0 with the Rousch package, it trapped 103 in its best run of the night, but averaged around 98-99, I hate they don't show E.t.s there

Mid 90s is a 7.20-40 pass. The 103 mph is going to be more like a 6.80

i'm sure it was more than just the Rousch package, but I believe the blower on it is from it... I doubt it was stock suspension, etc. but none the less it was a pretty quick car to be driven through the gate and i'd be confident in saying he drives it every day, or I would say it would be capable... now I don't know if he was on C116 or anything like that, but it was full interior

yeah i'm not an import guy, but I remember the 1st time I saw the grey GTR.... lol

I parked my car beside it at Dick's in Florence and if you think a 5th gen is "big", you should see one parked next to a new GTR, my car looked like a compact, lol...

in all seriousness the GTR was close to both white lines in the parking spot

they still haven't updated the watermark, that wasn't 2011, that was last night

I'll go out on a limb and say a guy in a new 5.0 with catback and short throw (not that a ******* shifter makes a difference anyways), was only running 8.70's, he can't drive....

he actually hates the new shifter he got, he told me he is putting it back stock... and he wasn't the best of drivers, but he wasn't flat out terrible or anything, he mostly ran 8.8s on the night and several people pulled the "let me drive your car" crap... he let his best friend(who had a turbo AWD Eclipse, it ran 8.30s most of the night, I only beat him once when we raced because he bogged off the line)... 8.8s is what he got out of it as well...

even then like I said in the run on the highway after leaving the track, we went from 40 again, which is usually a mustangs strong point and we ran them up pretty good, and if anything after about 105, I was pulling... not the other way around

I mean look at what the 5.0 mustang has over the 5th gen SS from the factory: 3.73 gears, shorty headers(no manifolds on them), a functional cold air intake... half the bolt-ons are already there... and I know there is gains to be found by going to long tubes, but the gains aren't like going from factory manifolds to longtubes, like on a LS3 Camaro, which is a 40whp gain... but besides that, just give it some Doug Thorley shorties, put it on 3.73s and give it a CAI, suddenly, that mustang has more than a race on its hands, I commend Ford for giving it those from the factory but the fact is, its bolt-ed up from the factory.... Coyotes ran 11s with bolt-ons and Ford guys were excited, I would be too... afterall, LS1 guys did that in the year 1999, hell, even the LS2 GTOs with the 1st generation Independent Rear Suspension which was absolutely terrible at drag racing, broke in the 11s with bolt-ons... people act like their is SUCH a huge gap between the 5.0 and 5th gens... the fastest "stock" Coyote went 12.40s, the fastest stock LS3 Camaro, went 12.56... 5th gen Camaros have went in the 11s with bolt-ons, they ran in the 10s stock cam/heads, bolt-ons with nitrous... now they DON'T make the drag cars that are the LS1 f-bodies... they are still superior to us, and honestly, still superior to the Coyote... dollar for dollar if you want to go fast, the LS1 is still king of the street and of the strip...

Jason Hale's car ran high 7's with exhaust, tune and tires. So you're saying your's will do that?

yeah... I think with just tires and a retune I will, though when I retune, i'll definitely have the Vararam on the car as well

to give you an idea how bad my tires are, I went 8.58 with just a muffler delete and x-pipe(which is zero added horsepower, as dyno proven, a sound mod)... have gained 3mph and only a 1/10th faster... and i'm not even tuned for my headers, on top of that, the only reason I have the tune I have, I have a pretty good relationship with the guy who tuned it, and he did it for less than a bill because I had done a lot of prior tuning with him when I had the turbo Cobalt... he is not a LS tuner by any means and i've already planned on going more aggressive when fully bolted, but his tune is better than stock(but its conservative to say the least) and it did give this car quite a bit with just it, here is my the before timeslip, before any tuning, etc.:

so if you don't think on decent rubber with 40more whp and a tuned 6L80e that it doesn't have a chance at high 7s.....well

you're more than welcome to venture over to Camaro5 or any other 5th gen site to see just that, its actually COMMON to run high 7s with bolt-ons, a tune, and tires...

not to mention, with these good old pushrods, the real fun starts with a simple cam swap... bolt-on for bolt-on, they're going to be neck and neck, the GT probably even has the advantage... then comes a cam swap, for a SBC that is $1000 in parts, for a GT that is $3000 in parts with not NEAR the selection... you can get a cam for LS engine for any imaginable build under the sun... from blower cams, to turbo cams, to nitrous cams, to VVT cams(for us L99 owners), to stealth cams... there is a cam for anything you could want, from mild to wild and because they'll all interchange, they're on the market ready to go before the new LS engine even debuts... once that GT runs out of bolt-ons, you got two options, boost or nitrous... they've never been known to hold nitrous like the LS based engines, so you have to turn to boost... which isn't cheap, with the cost of boost, dollar for dollar, still rather have a nitrous fed LS

besides all the GM guys with a boost fiend are turning to the Lq4 anyway, it'll hold all the boost you want to throw at it

I think we all know that with the C7 Vette, GM is probably going to go DOHC, that is coming... they were gearing up for it and already researching it back in 2008 when the automotive crisis hit and they put it on hold, at the time they were designing it for the Silverado, which is exactly how the LS1 got its research, as a truck engine

so if GM is doing what they are doing with stone age technology that everyone abandoned in the mid-90s... GM sports cars are going to be just fine with the next generation of small blocks... however, that simplicity is what makes them such a great motor to build, while some people see it as old technology, in all actuality, its why for example, when the ZL1 debuted within a week someone had it running 9s stock blower, stock transmission, stock suspension, stock bottom end... there was no research involved, it was "hey guys, watch this"... in fact, they took headers made for the SS, put them on and called it good
