I've read your other threads about your car and I never thought about knock retard when it starts to misfire. I've done some research about 98's and if we where to listen to all the crap people talk about how bad that year is then we would stay in the dark. I know it's frustrating, but stay cool and I'll get it work out. Just next time let me help you guys out because it sounds like you just wasted a lot time last weekend. Man I'll be home everyday until 7 May.
Thanks for the props Karl and Sheik, but there is always someone faster. You guys are going to be right there with me pretty soon anyway! But on a serious note, if dudes don't want my advice that's cool with me too because they can continue to pull their hair out and keep throwing money at problems to find out it was a simple fix that cost them nothing but time and attention to detail.
Hey craig, sorry i didn't call you this morning, i had to take my kid to the hospital, he's been sick and had a high fever. I did find out why my left O2 wasn't working right. the connector to the extenstion harness was resting on the header and starting to melt. the zip-tie i had holding it up broke off somehow. I had to run to autozone and buy a Bosch 13111 corvette rear O2 for it. I'm going to take the intake out next weekend. I think it might be the MAP sensor...it feels kind of loose back there. Also i got the liscense stuff to work on the HPT and just took it for a quick log. It's definately not the tune causing problems. The LTFT's are all around -8 now. so it's not running lean anymore but the problem still exists. I'm almost positive its a small vaccum leak somewhere.
that makes me think of when we were tuning on my car, and found that my knock sensor was bad. less than 50 dollars to take care of it all and get it up and running right. good troublshooting pays off real fast!
dont take offense to this, but they are under the intake and above another plate that keeps they sealed from everything under the sun. what it is youd be looking for to be wrong with them?
haha, i dunno, maybe water seeped in or something when the engine bay was washed or something. I really don't know what they even look like but i figured i'd pull them up and if they didn't look right consult somebody on it. You don't understand man. I'm desperate to figure what is wrong with my car.
Grease, as Karl said they will throw a code. I got my old ones out if you want to see what they look like. Start the car, reach back to the map sensor and push it down and see if that helps. I know on my fast it is very lose but no leaks.
yeah...my MAP is loose too which is another reason I wanted to pull the intake. I've tried messing around with it already but I'm thinking it's just not sealed like its supposed to be. I'm going to pull the intake and RTV around the sensor so I know it's not leaking. the fact that my car has richened up points me toward an intake leak somewhere versus an exhaust leak. we will see. since my wife is working now I can't afford to have my car down so I'll have to wait until this weekend to pull the intake.
That's what I did on my map sensor. The fast intakes don't have the tab to help secure the sensor like the ls6. If you replace the knock sensors make sure to put a thin bead of silicon on the black plug.
yeah thats how my MAP is too...lol....the clip broke off so I'm in the same boat there....yeah I planned on putting some silicone around the knock sensors just to help keep them sealed. So my car is still running the same way....but it doesn't seem as bad as it was before. I'm not sure why it's running rich all of a sudden either. but i think that is helping it run better for the time being. I actually think i have an exhaust leak too....not sure if it's just the way the exhaust sounds or if it's leaking....i'm going to put some copper RTV around the joints on the ORY just to be sure.
