Default Factory Camaro question??

This may be a stupid question but, is there any difference between a factory ordered camaro ss and a camaro that dealer ordered with ss package added on like an after market package? Was told mine is an factory ordered camaro ss and didn't know if theres a difference or not and why. Thanks for any help.

Not sure what your asking, but all factory ordered Camaro-SS (98-02) have the WU-8 on the door RPO-sticker. 96-97 have R7T. If yours doesn't have it then its not a real SS.

If the SS hood/spoiler/wheels/exhaust/badges were added anywhere other than SLP right at the time of manufacture... then it's a fake.

Dealers can't "add" the SS package... that's called fraud.

I have a '97 SS... and my car has both the R7T & WU8 code. Any thoughts on why mine would have both? Maybe it was part of the transition phase from R7T to WU8?

I'm pretty sure all real SS's have the WU8 code, not just the LS1 versions

I would like to see a picture of your RPO sticker, because there was no WU8 in 96 or 97. Please post it so I can examine it.

1996 & 1997 Camaro SS had the R7T code
1998-2002 had the WU8 code

Y2Y was the option code for SLP options. Y2Y was forced on many vehicles by GM that never recieved an SLP option as to facilitate the last minute ordering by dealers for optional content.

All SS's were sent to SLP for upfit - none were done by the dealer.

If you are missing the option code, you do not have a real SS.

Little known fact: All SS hoods and spoilers have a serial number engraved into the composite. Next time you have your hood or spoiler off the car, take a look - no serial = aftermarket/fake item. The serial is also on the inside of the scoop itself.

Hay David, Does that serial number have anything to do with the car's VIN? Also do the wheels have a serial number or what? I saw mine of the rim and it had numbers and a signature engraved in the inside.

Is this true for a SS replacement hood purchased from a chevy dealer? Mine was damaged in a storm.

The hood and spoiler serial has nothing to do with the vehicle's VIN. The wheels don't have serial numbers.

I don't think the replacement hoods have serial numbers. A true SLP replacement hood would have the "Made in Canada" and SLP Patent number inside the scoop area.

No... I didnt photoshop it. The passenger door sticker says BUILD DATE = 3/97. I called SLP a few months ago and they told me it came off the production line on 3/24/97. Also, its car # 2296. Im not sure how many were made for '97, but maybe my car was towards the end?

The end of production for the '97 MY was August 15, 1997.

Your car left SLP on 3/28/97.
