My 98 T/A vs. 03 Mustang Cobra (saleen)

I was heading home last night in the HOV lane on the freeway and maybe doing ten over, when out of no where comes a silver 'stang with black stripes. I am not accustomed to racing on the freeway, but it was 3 a.m., and my little brother was with me so I figured this could be fun.
Prior to this race I had never raced a Saleen Cobra, and had reservations that he would blow my doors off. Not to mention I could clearly hear the whine of his supercharger.
We did the whole pre-race stare down, he even rev'ed up his engine a couple times and laughed at me, but that only made me want it worse. We slowed to 55 mph, he honked three times, I downshifted, and we were off.
The race was close, at first. I could tell he just had a five speed because after I hit sixth, he was at least two and a half lengths back. at 130, he braked and faded fast. I followed suit, and we got off the same exit. I asked what mods he had, and he refused to say. It was then I realized the bmw technicians uniform he was wearing! He professionally tuned his 'stang and was cut my mostly stock T/A beat him.
By far my favorite kill to date.

lol cobra/saleen........well lets break it down if it was either or. IF it was an 03 cobra "which i dought" even stock would of pulled away...and away...and away from. now u said it was a 5spd which 03 cobra's didnt have so im guessing it wasnt an 03 cobra.
03 saleen...if it trully was the supercharged model and was completely stock it would had around 325 at the wheels which puts it rite at or little above a stock ls1 but def more tq but my guess it would be either a tie or him slightly pulling "if u r stock"

I know its not a real car that you could buy but there does appear to be one guy that combined the two to come up with a Saleen Cobra. LOL! Probably not the same car the OP raced though.

The O.P. probably got that Mustang confused with one of these, 1999 Saleen Cobra. They were available in both supercharged and N/A form.

When I had 4.10s in my car, it would run out of gear in 5th at right around 160 and a little over 6,000rpm on GPS. That was basically my top speed because shifting into six is useless even with those gears. The OP said his car is more or less stock, so if he was shifting into sixth gear with stock gearing, he is doing like 190. Not even close to possible at stock power levels. If you have a T56 with 4.11s and an LS1, there is no possible way 5th runs out at 130. Maybe 4th gear for the cammed cars with more revs, but even 4.11s will take you to over 150 in 5th with a stock motor. Of course this post could be useless and the OP made a typo.

I couldn't get a lot of info out of the driver of the mustang. It looked a lot like the s281 above, but was a coupe.
I am certain it was supercharged, and the five speed/six speed dilemma could be easily solved if he decided to end the race (decelerate) as I pulled away. The one and only reason I list this as my favorite kill was the attitude of the other driver, he was very upset to have lost in what by all accounts should have been a faster car.

in my stock geared lt1(3.42's) i hit 157 and still had about 2k left in 5th gear...
good kill none the less. those saleens have baby m90 blowers on them anyways.
a guy i was talking to at one of the meets i go to has a red supercharged one and said he trapped 98. i dont know if he was bs'n me or not(because he builds nitrous kits for a living) but those cars arent too fast, so its very possible for him to have beatin him like that.

1)..YES there were actual Saleen Cobra's...from 99-04. VERY few were made. (all 4V)
2)..chances were you ran into a 2V Saleen with cobra badges...or you just 'called it' a cobra saleen.

there are saleen cobras. this car is 1 of 1 in the country with a special "rainbow" saleen paint. just so happens to have a compound boost set up on it. and yes it does have a stock longblock.

Yeah, there are definitely real 03/04 Saleen Cobras. One of my buddies has a black one with a KB on it. It's like 1 of 3 in that color and he paid out the *** for it. He sold his 1995 Saleen 351 vert to buy it.
