Default factory freak?

hey guys ive got a couple races under my belt now after getting my 02ss, last night a guy rolled up on me trying to race me down the freeway. we ran and i beat him by 2-3 cars give or take half a car, it was a 98 ws6 with 1 7/8 headers ory, cutouts which were open, fast 90, fast 90 tb, and lid, the car was automatic with no stall and switched to 342 gears and was tuned with hp tuners. we were running from 50-70... different speed each run. the guy was amazed and swore i had mods but i dont its just got slp lid and slp exhaust as it is a slp ss. Any explanation? this has happened a couple times one with a 6.0 gto but i have no clue the mods on it if any. my car has no weight reduction of any sort either. Help me understand.... new to the muscle car crowed

are you an m6? might explain it partially. autos are usually a tad slower from roll, not always but most times(stock for stock m6).

that is beleivable. Back when i got my 02 trans am M6, i dynoed 336rwhp 346tq. on dynojet with K&N fipk and magnaflow exhaust. It moved pretty well for those mods.

Now, 98's usually dyno that with LT's and seeing that this one is an auto, from a roll you could have beat him. Good kill

Maybe the guys you raced couldn't drive. I say this because I've beat about 3-4 03/04 Cobra's when I had exhaust and a lid. One of them I beat (3 times) had exhaust, intake, & 410 gears. I had to have beat the drivers...

The greatest mod in any car is the driver. Good work.

factory freak I would reluctantly have to agree: The LS1's were notorious for there spread of power out of the factory. Never seen such a big variance on any car ever before. Examples? Go to a LS1 dyno shootout and watch the results... never even close when LS1's go at each other on a chassis dyno. Seen a 98 Z28 M6 with every concievable bolton imaginable only make 4 more rwhp than a bone stock WS6 M6.

Know of some local guys who had saw this at a dyno shootout last year:

'99 C5 M6 - 243 heads, LS6 intake, vavaram, full exhaust, 3.91 gears (and 120k miles): 34?rwhp on nitrous tune.

'02 WS6 M6 - LT's to dumped X pipe, lid: 344rwhp.

'99 Z28 M6 - every concievable bolton, ported LS6 intake, ported TB, 1.8 roller rockers, etc: 355rwhp.

'00 SS (?trans?) - bone stock, 302rwhp.

To some of you who have posted....Does anyone have any opinions on why some are just faster than others mod for mod. I have a 98 and it seems like, for the most part, the 01/02 f-bodies i run into on the road are faster mod for mod. On the converse side though, I have put several car lengths on a couple of 01/02 f-bodies too....it seems like more than not, I lose to 6-speeds....I guess drivetrain loss and transmission gearing comes into effect? Any ideas?

hey op i talked to the kid you raced after it happened! black ws6 with red stripes? he said your car runs damn strong!

i have been in his car and watched him pull almost every car on the top end cept yours and a friends 02 som ws6. the som dyno'd 367 rwhp. and beat his ws6 by a car length.

that ws6 ran a 13.07 at 108. so you definitely have a strong running car... you should come out with us some time man... we have quite a nice f-body crowd here in town.

if you're in a manual car... i could see that. but 2-3 cars seems like a lot.
what speed did you race to? when you think of a car length, are you thinking of 2-3 parallel parked cars on a crowded city street or 2-3 cars as they would spaced apart while driving down a residential road?

stock autos are crap from that high of a roll - constantly victimized by flybys also.

imo, if he's only trapping 108, well that makes perfect sense.

I don't see how it could be the driver... an auto, from a roll.... how could you **** that up?

idk kid seemed to be doing everthing fine, knew what he was talking about and we we left same time, his auto even had the time to fully downshift rather than being in between gears. I dont know the speed we raced to really i never pay attention to that... to concentrated on the road and task at hand. but to the car length question id say u could have fit about two cars bumper to bumper in between us at the very top end of the race.

proace4, yea man hit me i just talked to him today actually, ill try to pm u if i can figure it out haha

I swear maybe its just me but the 02s are always faster than the others even the 01s even with the same mods(bolt ons) and options...I know they should be

My 00' SS made 350/351 with full exhaust, lid, and 9" w/4:10....with over 100,000 miles on it. Even the tuner was impressed with those numbers with the mods and mileage. So yea the spread of hp numbers and responsiveness to mods does vary greatly.

Good kill OP.

how does it make perfect sense? when most stock ls1 cars around here run 13.1-13.7 usually around 105-107. where are you located that a stock ls1 runs 108 all day long? thats some great track conditions or weather it would seem. I know he needs a stall bad, but thats not gonna help as much from a high rmp roll in 2nd gear give or take at 55-60.

OP--- very interested in seeing your car run! Caleb is a stand-up guy and wouldnt lead you down the wrong path... He definitely knows how to drive his car. Yall should line them up again! lol i'll video it.

such a high roll in the auto gives him a HUGE disadvantage...lower the speed to 20 or 30 then see what happens.
