You may already know this, but ya really need to keep the pressure toward the bottom of the round and right up next to the feeder clip, avoiding to the extent possible binding the clip by letting pressure bleed out toward the projectile.
Use one hand to steady the feed, and using the tip of the thumb, as opposed to the pad of the thumb, press sharply back toward the sleeve and down.
You might also have some luck with giving the clip a couple of drops and the face of the bolt and interior of the mag a good cleaning with a Break-Free (CLP) type lube, leaving a light coat.

That's sorta the downside to the SKS... Imagine that you absolutely positively GOTTA have that mag loaded in the next 10 seconds... (Not good).

Mine's Chinese, out the ***... They're fun to shoot, but I would not want to have to depend on that thing. At best it's worth 30 shots, but wisdom requires having something else loaded and at the ready for rounds 31 ~ and up. I've not carried out to 500, just because we don't really have anywhere down here that allows for such distances, but I'd have no problem picking it up if the issue was 500 yards out. If anything, with the SKS, the farther out the problem is, the better.
But, with that said, inside 300 yrds, it's about as close to 30 sure-things as you'll run across for $150 bucks.
