The only way I got this far was being a veteran, I don't have a 4 year degree yet. I have a 2 year, but thats worthless pretty much anywhere.
I am also taking the test for Customs and Border Protection next month, and applying for the DEA as well. Took the border patrol test but didn't pass the Spanish part. I don't Habla as well as I thought I guess. Took the ATF test too, that **** has algebra on it though and I failed it. My job now pays great and great benefits but I am so bored I dread going to work every day. If I don't get hired at either place, I am thinking of going back into the army as a Warrant Officer under the flight program for rotary wing aircraft.

CWO would be awesome, but a GS postition FTMFW. You looking at a 7/9/11 type thing? My buddies did that for BP, one had to go to language school (his spanish sucked too (as does mine), and we have lived near the border for 18+ years lol), but the other tested out of it and is now an 11 I think, and he is 23.

Yeah a 7-9-11 type deal. Although right now I am in the GS scale so they cant start me out as less than what I am now. So I guess they will have to give me step increases to my current salary if I get hired. I make more than a base GS7 at my current job so I guess I will see how they work it.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your Step? And yea, they can't start you out lower, but maybe because of your GS level right now they could attempt to start you at a 9. I wish I would have followed through with BP when they were doing the huge hiring spree, I know quite a few that went through with it from my home town. I just don't want to get stuck in Southern Arizona again lol.
Yeah I should have taken the alternative language test at BP instead of spanish. I took 3 years of spanish in school but the test was kind of hard and I am rusty. The ATF test was hard as ****, 20 minutes for the math part

I'm never going to understand the government pay scale. Going to take my TSA exam tommorow afternoon. It'll be a foot in the door and fed benefits till I finish my degree.

Only people who have let me post consistently for the past years is ls1tech and vtcoa (because I don't troll on these two).

Step 3 currently and I get my step 4 early next year. I dont know if they will start me as a 9 though. I think you have to have a degree. I will ask them in the interview.

I was a gs4 step 1 for 2 years, the program I was in couldn't advance beyond that. **** sucked, especially for having a TS. I need to see what jobs are out there regarding counter intel/electronics ****.

Eh, it's kinda confusing at first. You have your paygrades, 1-15. Most typically, they are odd numbers, and the job description will show the starting and what it goes up to (typically with a degree or years of service), E.G, a GS 5/7/9 position starting in the border patrol. Within each paygrade, you have steps, 1-10, typically associated with years of service at that grade. My father for example, is a 12 step 10...his job couldn't be converted to a 13, so he stayed a grade 12 for years and got up to step 10. Steps are typically based off years IIRC....every year you go up a step beging at 1, then to 2, then 3, after 3 years. To go to 4,5 and 6, I believe it's 3 years at each step, and then for the final 7,8,9,10....No idea.

Also, that GS stuff is if you are a GS...there is also GG (actually that is what I was), and then also DCIPS (if I spelt that right), which is way ******* weird and I can't even begin to explain that. I was converted to that, pay was a IA-01, but it was confusing as ****. A IA-01 pay can be from like $15k-$52k I think, vs GS pay scale which is a little easier to follow...look at the chart for the given pay grade, that is the pay you are making, minus whatever extra for cost of living adj.

We can't be friends if you go ATF, unless you can help push my form 4's through faster when I go SBR and can(s) for my guns.

ATF Would be ideal. I need to study my math a little more. They start out as GL5 though so I would likely be a GL5 step 10 if I got hired there. And yes, if I was in charge of ****, if you are a law abiding citizen with no criminal record and pass a mental heath eval, you would be allowed to have wahtever kind of weapon you want.
You have your pay grades 1-15, and each pay grade has steps. Step 1-10. A gs6 step 10 makes more than a GS7 step 1, if that makes any more sense of it to you guys.

New toy(s) today, I got my mortgage refund check from refinancing. Kel Tec .380 and some hornaday zombie max rounds to go with it(I couldn't resist), and I finally bought the valve springs and pushrods for my cam install. 10's here I come with a tire.

I am supposed to be a 9 in my current job if I stay 2 more years (Goes 7-8-9)... **** that. Its so goddamn boring. The benefits are good for uncle sam but its a lot of bullshit to deal with. For example my supervisor is an idiot, but luckily he knows I know what I am doing and he leaves me alone.

You do physical security don't you? My dad does that, seems boring as **** for most places, but at our old unit he had to make sure everything was going well, especially with TSCIFs going up for tests, and when 100+ extra people were in for said tests and issuing badges and making sure they only had access to certain areas...**** all that. Stressful as **** making sure everything was to spec.
And yup, I have a TS, and I pass a NICS check every time. I am just put off by the 6 month wait time for a form 4 to go through for a transfer.

Yea, my dad as a 12-10 makes more than he would as a 13-1,2,3 I think up until 4 or 5. But since he is retiring in Feb, **** it, he doesn't care.

Its pretty funny when someone with a sense of entitlement comes to bitch me out because their keyfob doesn't work, I will make them wait even longer just out of spite, and I also call their supervisor if they are too much of a dick about it. I hate my job but it pays the bills.

They just built a new addition which took 3 years to finish, and I just finished all the key cards and **** for that building. Also there were so many deficiencies it wasn't funny so I am gonna be looking at some overtime here soon but I dont mind overtime. I really dont have much to do other than that. Although they are talking about expanding my area of responsibility to another small place in Ocala which will suck but I will get per diem at least if they do.
Seriously if there was a Gym on property, I would be a happy man because I would stay in there all day.
