I think the old chevy 302's had a factory redline around 7000-7500 rpm.

Dz302? 7200rpm redline wasn't it?

the "290 hp" rating was taken at 5800 rpm. Pontiac did a similar thing with the ram air IV. they called it like 7 more hp than the ram air III, but that rating was taken at a lower rpm lol.

Jay you're a reasonable guy, I respect your opinion.
But if someone has a facebook, their information is inherently... not personal.
If you disagree, I won't argue with you, I'm just sayin.

OHV are good for peak power, but their curves aren't as pretty as a GM 2v, and they have their own problems to deal with as well. They are bigger, heavier, more expensive, more complicated, make less TQ at the same HP range (usually because they are less displacement), and have a lot more moving parts to break then a pushrod V8. Set an LS3 on the ground next to a 5.0(very impressive engine in its own right) and the benefits of a pushrod V8 are instantly apparent. More cubes, more HP, more tq, lighter, smaller, easier to work on, etc...
This.
For drag racing I'd take a simple 2v BBC over LS, SBC, Ford, Mopar etc. Engine masters ranking give extra points to smaller engines, and remove points as a handicap for larger ones..which is why that 401 Ford ran away with the trophy. If not they would all be 572+ BBCs making 1,000+hp on motor.

Okay so I assume Puck's paragraph was supposed to say OHC In the beginning. Their scoring method favors average power and torque, not smaller motors, mod motors placed top 3 out of 4.
Hio, keep posting that pic I'm sure it helps you sleep at night. The fact that you've given the mod motors in the challenge zero credit speaks for your nuthugger nature. I'll PM you a link to buy exhaust valves for your stock LS7.

I'm not in the business of swapping motors like you are with both of your cars, WV. My money is going other places at the moment. Sorry the LS motor got 4th behind 3 Fords
