Ran a Mazdaspeed 3
To quote myself from last week:
And so I did. Now keep in mind, it's the end of December, right before Christmas, and it was flurrying pretty good in parts of the state today, so there weren't many cars out.
We went up there and hung out for a bit and then a few cars started trickling in. The ones that caught my eye were a silver Mazdaspeed3 with a front mount, a red 1G Talon, and a silver SRT-4 with a front mount. Judging by what was in the parking lot, the fastest was going to be one of these three.
I approached them and told them I was looking for a friendly race and asked if anyone was interested. They asked what I had and I told them the G8. The guy with the Mazda said, "you're the guy who tried to race me two years ago," and I told him I was.
(Back Story: Two years ago, when my car was stock, I was looking for races and saw this guy hanging out with a black Mazdaspeed 3 and a white Mazdaspeed 3. I tried to get them to race and they didn't want anything to do with it. A few weeks later I had my tune and cold air on the car and asked them again, but the guy with the silver car told me that he had to get a couple more mods on and then he would be ready to race me. After that I gave up on it.)
Back to last night:
I said, "last time we talked, you told me you needed to get a couple more mods on before you raced me. Did you get them on?" to which he told me that he had. They asked me what I had done and I told them a cam and bolt-ons. The guy with the Talon seemed to be familiar with LS stuff and said, "what's it make, about 400?" Once the guy with the Mazda heard that, he wasn't too interested in a race. He said he'd raced a 380 rwhp CTS-V and had lost, but it was close. He told me it wouldn't be worth my gas. Then a few minutes later he tells me that I wouldn't be pulling multiple cars on him and that it would be close, but he still wasn't too interested in a race.
The guy with the Talon said he'd be down for a race if he wasn't breaking his new motor in. He said it was a built motor with a 16G turbo, but when I asked what it would make for power he said 600-700 "once I put my big turbo seup on."
I asked about the SRT-4, and the owner said it had a few bolt-ons and runs about the same as the Mazda, but that he had snow tires on and wasn't interested in a race.
The guy with the Mazda said he had exhaust and a tune. He said that it they run 15 psi stock and he was "tuned for 17." The car also had a front mount intercooler, and at one point he said he thinks it makes low 300's, which I'm assuming were flywheel numbers. I really don't know much about those cars, though.
He wasn't in any hurry to race, but I told him it was just a friendly race, and then his friends started goading him so he finally agreed. I asked him what the best speed would be for him, and he picked 45 mph. We each had a passenger and went out to get it done:
It was a fun race, especially for the middle of winter. We stopped after and I thanked him for a fun race. We all BS'd a while and then took off as it was cold as **** out, and there weren't likely to be any more cars showing up.

Yeah I doubt that was stock. I raced a few stock MS3's and there's no way they run that stock, unless the newer ones have more power and I'm unaware...
SRZ, I raced a red MS3 with about 310whp, he smoked me! I've heard they're hard to mod extensively due to direct injection though

An MS3 with the claimed mods you mentioned is probably making upper 2XX whp. I had one with similar mods and made 280whp. I ran door to door with a bone stock G8 GXP, but one with your mods would have killed my last car. Good runs.

I think there are some vids of a 500whp one on here that was pulling on a H/C/I C5Z.

They respond very well to mods, but they're also finicky cars. The DI system sucks.
Back in '09 My buddy had one that went 13.4@106 with intake and test pipe only.
With downpipe, diverter valve (the stock ones leak) and tune that became 13.2@109 @ LVD.
A friend has one now with most bolt ons and an aggressive tune for 50/50 93 & E85 made 315whp.
Not a chance the guy could drive.
