My point? My point is this...
faceplated T56....stock transmission
5" racing clutch....stock clutch
crate motor......stock motor
drag radials.....slicks
fixed back racing seats...stock leather
aero mods to make faster...stock
"creative" weight reduction...stock other than removed sway bar
higher lift RRs.....stock
aftermarket intake.....stock
headers.....stock
bigger throttle body....stock
But hey! My car is more of a race car.

don't forget
fast .........slow
Looks to me like your point was none of my mods keep me from driving anywhere at any time. But those slicks sure as hell would

Hio, would you be willing to list ALL the mods done to your car? Including all of your backyard mechanic stuff (home ported, TB, intake, manifold, etc), all the "creating" weight reduction, basically anything that is not as it came from the factory. I really am curious how your car runs that fast.

Picture a ring with small teeth and the gaps between the teeth is your window to shift...say this big..... "..........". A faceplated tranny has larger lugs or tabs and the gap between them is this big.... "....................". But you must still use your clutch to engage the tranny.
On the street you will hear a faceplated tranny clunk sometimes if the rpm isn't match appropiately. Much like a detroit locker clunks. But if you get good at it you can rev match and shift somewhat smoothly. But faceplating overall is harder on the gears.
You don't see too many faceplated trannys on street cars. They are mainly on racecars.

Let me give you another option. Take it to a machine shop have them cut it down to the size you want and rethread it to a different thread. Bin planing on doing it to mine just havn't got around to it. Got a buddy that had his done.

Faceplating basically makes the window of time to shift bigger. Meaning in a syncro'd tranny the bronze syncro gear slows down the gear so that the clutster gear can me engaged to the gear on the main shaft. With a faceplated tranny the small tooth'd syncro gear is removed a large ring with engagement lungs is welded to the gear. Giving you a huge gap vs very small gaps in a syncro tranny.

What are you laughing at?
You talkin to me??
You have to drive it like you stole. Drive it like normal. If you can drive a stick then it should not be a problem. The problem is most can't drive a stick. Most think they can. It takes more than being able to take off and go up threw the gears to drive a stick.
Good post Mark.
I'll add....It's probably less intrusive than a detroit locker due too it not changing the way the vehicle acts. Noises are similar with the clunk of a fp'd trans being more pronounced. I only use the clutch under normal driving, once I go wot I very seldom use the clutch, breathe the throttle and pull the gear. You have to have your timing right to do that but it's smooth as silk when you get it right. I have a ignition cut that will go on the car soon. I will be able to flat foot the shift then and the "breathe " will be electronically......ford guys are gonna bitch more when my trap speed goes up more......you guys prepare yourselves
You have to rev match your down shifts.....which as far as I'm concerned if you can't do that you can't drive a stick. Example: In the gf vs bf vid....the guy in the c6 can't drive a stick. Driving a stick takes foot work too. I rev match sycro'd trans on the downshift too, it's smoother that way on the down shift.
It's not harder on the gears. From what I can tell it's actually easier on the gears. The faceplate can break but in 6+ years I have only broke one. The newer faceplate has 7 openings for engagement. Older ones like mine has 9 and are a not as strong and the 7's.

I like it better. I must like it because it's been that way for over 6 years. If you can't drive a stick then you need the syncro'nannies........if you can then you don't.
