Default Me vs 3000GT VR-4

Ok, so a guy at my work wants a piece. He thinks his car is the greatest thing on the damn planet. "My car pulls twelve eights stock!" (He's never been to the track) "My car was made to be a vette killer!" Whatever buddy. He is bone stock, it's a 98 VR-4 six speed w/ 70,000 miles. I just have a catback and lid. He is the better driver since i've been driving stick for 2 1/2 months now. We are going from a dig. I know i should take him but got any advice? I'm gonna throw out the spare tire/jack, maybe an octane boost or something, i can't loose to this guy no matter what!!

The only advice I can offer you is to make sure you go for the full 1/4 mile. He will rip you out of the whole, but you'll easily take him on top-end. Those VR-4s lose TONS of power up top thanks to AWD.

The last VR4 I ran I was ahead by the 60 foot. They run like 14s-15s stock depending on altitude and driver etc. Yes they are pigs and a half especially if he has their special little stearing garbage package. Don't sweat it just run your quarter like you're trying for a good time and kick his junk in.

dont take it lightly, that car is good for mid-high 13s at around 101 stock with a good launch. If you blow the launch he could have you, also get him to go from a roll so you can rub that in his face.

I bet anything he won't launch it to get the good times. You've got to have it bouncing off the rev limiter and then dump the clutch to get your mid 13's out of one. I bet he could only get it to go 14's. I wouldn't sweat it.

Dude, those things are too damn heavy, with AWD and not enough power to go 12.80's stock. More like 13.80's on a GREAT launch. As long as you don't click off a 2.4 or 2.5 60', then you'll eat him alive. It's sad how many different "performance cars" our crappy ole' V8's eat up!

Launch at about 2500 on stock tires and clutch, no more or you'll just go up in smoke while he takes off. Practice on a back road and see what rpm will keep you from spinning when you dump the clutch. A little spin is ok as long as it hooks quick, but if you have to let off to get it to hook, then thats too much. Good luck.

Thanks for the words or encouragement and advice. I'll see him today and try and get him to commit to when he wants to do this. I'm also gonna try and get it on tape so i can show everybody i work with how my poor little $22,000 car smoked his $33,000 "corvette killer."

drivers race pretty much but with your mods you should have the advantage

pretty fast for a boat...(classic ricer word btw )

http://popularmechanics.com/popmech/...907AUCTBM.html

If he hasnt turned up the boost, get him to run longer than a 1/4 mile and you should beat him.

I bet when he hears how confident you are he will come up with an excuse to not race you. I think you will beat him pretty good.

I KNOW you'll beat him pretty good. If he leaves the car all stock and doesn't turn up the boost, even with a decent launch he's toast. We had a guy about my age (19-ish) who brought a '95 VR4 to the track. Bone stock. He couldn't do any better than upper 15's, and did mostly 16's because you have to be a damn good driver to launch them perfectly to get a low 14/high 13 second time with them. I guarantee you that you will smoke him.

not many people who talk that much **** actually have "stock" cars. but if you cant tell by looking at it (bigger turbos, etc.) then you would probably take him.

The race is going down this weekend. Hopefully i will have video to post in the multimedia section. Best part is the guy is selling his VR4 (for$27k he says) and the guy that is buying the car wants to be there for the race. I want to see the look on his face when i smoke the car he is about to buy.

See, this is what i hate about people all you guys race, they are the biggest retards in world. Yes, if you're at all a competent driver, you will make him eat your ***. I drive an '02 WRX, my freind,(who sounds exactly like this Guy) has a 1993 VR-4 and talks more than any one you guys have every met. Yes the car is good for 13s stock, but mid to high at best. I race my freind every moment i get, i pull on him ever time on the street, even from a roll, adn my percsonal best is only a 13.9@95.15mph.

My freind did run a 13.9 as well at the track, but he's modded. He's even more modded now with a boost controller, downpipe, and intake, and I still pulled him last week. He claimed he was on "low boost", i just replied that i was on stock boost, pissed him right off.

But please don't take all of you bad experiences with ricers against everyone with a non-american made car. I have 3 freinds with LS1s, and they prefer to roll with me more than anyone else, i'm not ignorant and know my **** about cars, more than any one of them combined.

Who the hell races only 60'? That's not even a race. That's stupid. Of course your friends won't race you for just 60'. They realize that even with drag slicks which would put them ahead of you in the 60', what a waste of time that'd be. AWD is good for launching, but that doesn't mean it's faster than cars that spin their tires and are .1-.3 seconds slower in the 60'. A stock DSM AWD has a great chance of beating our cars in the 60'. Does that make the DSM a faster, better car? Hell no it doesn't. And so your car has AWD. Big deal. They won't race you on "the curves" because they won't research into the fact that FBodies were made to handle, and all they hear is "imports are made for curves" so they're stuck on the theory that apparently their cars can't handle. Well if they knew how to drive well and actually raced you on "the curves" both you and them would be surprised to how well they stayed with you.

You aren't ignorant? Well your post certainly doesn't tell us that.

trust me, they aren't ignorant(as you come off as), all three of their LS1s would kill you, they all have 12 second slips, ohh yeah, i didn't say i was faster, just quicker, and if you're not smart enough to see i was joking, you should lighten up.
anyways, who cares, this is about a 3000gt vs an ls1, which, with equal drivers will, beat the vr-4.

Joking... I'm sure. Nice of you to pull that last comment out of your post AFTER I made my reply. And I never said THEY were ignorant, I said you were. But I guess you weren't smart enough to read that. Typical.
