The only thing beneficial about shifting past the rpm where a motor will make most of its power would be to account for the rpm drop during a shift. Spinning the motor past that point would be counter productive to the performance. The cam profile in the 4V would not continue to produce power after ~6300rpm.
After replacing the cams though, I noticed that power continues up to redline at 6800rpms...and further. Personally, I just do not shift past 6900 so I do not break **** but it still wants to pull. Currently, I have the rev limiter set at 7100 at which point the motor will shutdown.

Bingo. The whole idea is to keep the car near peak power at all times.

I know. He is talking about spinning the car 800 RPM past his peak. Two things, a typical B head motor wont make power that long, and 500 RPM past peak is the best. When you stay in it that long, you're wasting time.

I have ever heard people go as far as having different shift points as they went through the gears. I could possibly see this helping somewhat BUT I would not think anything substantial. Not sure??
As a matter of fact, I remember reading some threads that some were installing either Raptor or MSD Shift Lights which allowed for multiple rpm setpoints to be entered.
