pretty sure i'm going to build my kid daughter a mid 70's chevy pickup with a BBC. i have a friend with a garage full of BBC rectangular heads and 4 bolt 4.25" iron blocks. steel cranks, etc. a solid roller, 10:1 and a lot of gear to keep it slow.

i worked at a muffler shop for 10 years on Clarksville, TN, and the owner had me build him a 73 longbed with a large journal 327.
i ported the heads, port matched the intake to heads, modded everything the engine needed to turn 7500 and make peak power there. this was in 1989. well before most were doing that stuff.
i made the exhaust. dual 3" pipes with a h-pipe i made, then a pair 3" to dual 2 1/2" series 40 flow masters. then the 4 pipes went over the axle to one-into-two chrome tips. it had 4 pipes on one side coming out the back and 4 on the other.....
of course long tube hooker headers.
a high stall converter and th400 with a shift kit.....
it was a long bed. i took the 10 leaf rear springs, and cut the rear half off untill it dropped to where i wanted it. it made poor man's sleeper traction bars.
we painted it 1970 torino candy red.
that truck was a bad ************ for it's day and murdered the early lightnings and 454SS chevy's.
he would pull out and pass a long line of cars on highway 79 to dover pulling a boat lol.
it had a high lift split duration CC hydraulic and high ratio rockers.
ill do the same thing for my kid, but with a BBC. BBC is the king after all.
the caveat is that i have access to early rectangular port closed chamber iron heads and 4 bolt 454 blocks, along with steel period cranks. cheap.
i am currently negotiating a price for the BBC parts with the owner. She has a bunch of 427, 454, and 396 engine parts, as well as dual quad intakes, cranks, and tunnel rams.
with bigger valves, pocket ported heads, rectangular port BBC engines are hard to beat. especially at 454 inches.
Hiollary is a known quitter when the kitchen gets too hot. LOL
