Softer clears will mar and scratch easier but they don't get rock chips very easy.

Harder clear = easier to chip, harder to scratch
Softer clear = harder to chip, easier to scratch

My paint has both chips and scratches, even though it's stored inside and is never driven on anything but properly paved roads. My experience isn't uncommon. They had to cheap out somewhere, and they did it on the paint.

I didn't say hard clear was scratch resistant !

The paint quality is right along the lines of most factory manufacturers. You want to see garbage.... check out a Tesla

My dad and sister have Dodge, my mom has Ford, my brother in law and I have Chevy. They have next to no chips and scratches, my BIL and I have chips everywhere. Older chevy stuff didn't seem that bad, but my god do I hate the newer stuff.

Not the cheapest, but if your worried about rock chips I think this is the best solution. I put it on my Vette a few years ago and it has held up amazing.

it's a red thang. Red seems to be a weaker pigment. I noticed this while trying to keep paint on the race cars. The red always showed more road rash.

That might be a part of it, but it's a 6th gen thing in general. Every time I see one parked, I look at and it's got the same issues. I know a few people that own them and they have the same issue, every time you wash the thing, you find more chips.

I think its an EPA thing when they made everybody switch to waterborne paints. I dont think it's as durable.

In canuckistan, we have to 3M the entire front of all vehicle makes/brands due to constant gravel being dragged onto the highways, salt all winter, etc. From paint correcting experience, Dodge has the weakest paint, but the new GM white is a close second.

No such thing as weak paint. White paint is by far the hardest in turn chipping easier.

Guys....I was not stating opinions about soft vs hard clear coat in relation to marring and chipping..... those are facts

But again, everyone in my family has a new car and while they may get a chip or two, it's NOTHING like the Chevy paint.

That's what pisses me off so much, I am super careful about where I drive. My particular state loves doing road construction, but I avoid it like the plague. On top of that, this bastard is chipping in places that don't even see the road. The middle of the trunk lid took the most damage and I have no idea how.

Well, I got made an offer I couldn't refuse on my 18 Camaro SS. Was looking at the challenger scat pack, but wound up with an Oxford White 2021 GT Premium 6 speed.
