Default what does it really take to beat an 03 cobra?

Today a guy at my work has an 03 cobra and he said it has some bolt ons.... I said what a pulley and he said no a throttle body, i gues he thought i was stupid or something.... then he said it runs a 8.40 in the 1/8 mile.... I'm not completely sure about his mods, but i know what i have i know its probably not enough to win, but he said he wants to race for $200.... To me thats a lot of money since i'm only 19, but i'm wondering what i would have to do to beat him.... I have about $1000 saved right now, and i want to do bolt ons, but will that be enough? I kinda don't want to run the happy juice, because i'll have to hide that from the parents.... so someone help me out.....

There was already a thread based on this. But your going to need a good amount of power to stack up against a Terminator. Cheapest route for you would be the bottle. But IMO its all about heads/cam/bolt ons or a variety there of.

If this guy does not have a pulley and tune, its probably not that big a deal. If he is a shitty driver to boot, you have more than a chance. Just try to go from a stop, you would have the advantage.

bolt-ons will drain that grand real quick and will give a marginal gain compared to n2o. dude your 19.. get the bottle if you want
if it was my call id get a kit and some 4.10's and put the guy to shame

get the bottle and you should take him if he is running a 8.4 in the eighth. then you just have to worry about if he changes his pulley. he could be baiting you to finance his pulley change...

I run an 8.3 in the 1/8 mile and I'm sitting at 355 rwhp (with a race weght of 3380 if I remeber correctly from the scales last night) to give you an idea

anyone that wants to race for money usually has something done that makes them think they can rape you, because no one wants to chance any money if they think it will be a close race

Get a wing. A big one. If you can spare the cash maybe a few stickers too. That should put you around the same rwhp as him.

Sounds like he's trying to hustle you, and a Cobra is the perfect car to do that with. He could be putting 500 down to the wheels and basically look stock under the hood. You'll never know the difference.

On side a side note, if he's just stupid and really does only have a TB, and really has only ran an 8.4, then you should take him like you are. Check my sig. I basically took off the factory exhaust, rigged up a CAI, and went an 8.2 1/8. Even if you're a crappy driver you should be able to get mid 8's which would be a close run against him.

All that BS aside ^, I wouldn't race him for money.

The guys said it ran the 8.40 at irwindale, but then he said he only had the 390 that came stock, so if he has boltons how does he still have 390?I'm still unsure about his car, i really want to race him, cause all the old guys at work think they know everything and think he's just going to put my car to shame.....so today i'm going to be puttin on my drag radials since they finally came in the mail... but other than that I think i'm going to order some headers, and have the local shop do a true dual setup, then maybe a tune from pcm forless.... then thats going to be the fork in the road... either order up a nice nx kit, or some 4.10's and some other boltons.... are gears that hard to put in or should i just have a shop do it?

Dude........dont try to put your gears in. Get an NX kit, thats your best bet, he will have no chance since you have DR's now. A 100 shot wont even hurt a thing. Headers and exhaust are not going to hold you over for long, the NX kit will give you P L E N T Y of victories on the street. Dont even consider it, call now and charge it....what are you waiting for. NAWZ man, NAWZ. But be quiet about it if this guy is a smack talker.

do the headers and the true duals..but use a magnaflow bullet they sound great..then geta nx kit with a window switch(100shot) and get a mailorder tune i dono anything about pcms for less or what ever it is but make sure they know your planning on sprayin and last but not least get some tr6 plugs for the NAWZ lol....on a 03 cobra vs f-body races..it takes 75hp more for a cobra to beat you so if you have a bolt on car (340-350hp) it would take 415rwhp for the cobra to beat you..that is if you and him can drive...this is all IMO.

Its kind of hard for me, to beat them I first have to trick them into racing!

I say spend about 10 Grand. Forge your motor, with a SERIOUS heads and cam, put in 4.10's and a Ford 9". Then Procharge the motor @ 20 P.S.I., get all new suspension parts, with stiffer springs and drag shocks, then you should be set to go.

Or, you can just spend a couple hundred bucks and get N20.

There is nothing I love more than seeing an All motor car spank a bottle fed car.
