I'm a fan of certain LT1 powered cars as well, but I'm also realistic. They are a driver's race with a 99-04 GT 5spd.

Okay guys, I don't know how many times myself and others have to explain it...but here goes...

LT1's, 96-98 4v Cobras and 99-04 2v GT's are a drivers race, stock for stock.

LS1's, 99/01 4v Cobra's, 03-04 4v Mach 1's and 05+ 3v GT's are a drivers race, stock for stock.

Thanks for finally putting it into black and white for everyone else who misunderstood or ignored what was said...

I don't know the specs on the 96-98 Cobra, but I can't imagine them having less power than the 99-04 GT's. I agree with you.

Lightbulb

the 96-98 Cobras are rated at 305 hp and 300 ft lbs of torque while the 99 -04 GT's are rated at 260 hp and 302 ft lbs of torque...i know that the 96-98 Cobras will monkey stomp the GT's up to 2004...from 2005 on its a little bit of a different story...stock for stock ive seen my buddies 96 Cobra beat an '05 GT and ive seen that same GT beat his Cobra...so i think that they are very similar powerwise and 1/4 mile time wise...

Well considering 96-98 Cobras are high thirteen second cars in general, and 99-04 GT 5spds are high thirteen-low fourteen second cars in general, it seems pretty frickin' close to me...

the 4V Mach 1's have the same motor as the 03-04 Cobra, just without the supercharger.
i saw a picture of a mach 1 motor once and it was a single cam. could it have been a 3v or 2v? aren't all cobras quad-cam? or am i incorrect (about the mach 1)?

96-98 cobra are alot closer to 99-04 gts than you would think. But the cobras do respond beter to mods.

Stock for stock, whether you want to believe it or not, they are. Most of the people you see at the track running those bad times are often new to the track and its environment.

The 03/04 Mach 1 is a DOHC, which has twice the valves and twice the cams as a 99-04 GT, giving the Mach 1 4v's per cylinder and 4 total cams.

...So you just threw that comment about mach 1's in to stir up or what?

JET answered your question correctly. The Mach's have 4 valves per cylinder and 4 cams total. The picture you saw could've been a 2V 99-04 GT motor, or a 05+ GT motor. They both have single overhead cams.

LT1 F-bodies and 99-04 are typically pretty close, they can obviously go both ways, but I think it's pretty well understood that the LT1 has a small edge on them, especially at lower speeds.

Both run significantly slower than 05 GTs and 99 and 01 Cobras, which are pretty close stock for stock.

S197 and 99,01 Cobras are both slower than LS1 F-bodies and Mach 1s, if not by much.

03+ Cobras can pretty much toy with the others.

All of the above has been proven many times over, its a compeltely non-biased overview of recent Ford vs. Chevy pony cars. If you disagree you're just wrong... and any race that you had that deviated greatly from that outline should not be counted upon as the norm.

Sorry, I just felt like I had to straighten that out. I knew this would ensue after my LS1 bait comment.

I never stir anything up, little buddy. I take these things called *facts* and put them in the equation. Like when some moron with a stock LT1 claims that he "monkey stomps" 99+ GTs like they're standing still. He might win, but that's the driver's fault, and not the car.
