Default Raced a 2000 stang GT, funny excuse

A buddy of mine has a friend that thinks his car is the ****, 2000 mustang GT, 4.10's, headers, flowmasters, CAI, Throttle body spacer, Performance clutch, mayb some other minor stuff but i forget, set me up to race him last night. Anyways, we line up at the last stop light going out of town, high 20 degree weather, and didn't have time to warm up the tires. We both hit it at the same time, I spun like crazy, first time i've ever spun all the way through second, and finally gripped when it hit third, but probably because of the cold pavement. he had a car on me because of my traction issues but pulled him pretty hard after i did get traction and by 90 I had 3-4 cars on him. We stop and talk and gives me an excuse that he missed 2nd because my car was outragously loud and he couldn't hear his own engine to when he needed to shift, I didn't say anything, just laughed to myself for a couple minutes

2nd race- Both warmed up the tires on this race. Both had the same reaction time on the 3rd honk. I spun all the way through first, and chirped into second. His front nose was at my door at 40, then when I got traction at the beginning of 2nd, I pulled him hard. Only went to 85 because he was at least 5 car lengths behind. Still trying to get used to the new 3.42's, big difference from the 2.73. His car looked pretty bad *** and sounded nice, I hate to say it but I love the mustang tone of the exhaust.

bud of mine has a 2004 GT with pulleys, 275 bfg ta drags, same as me, and a CAI and tune, and its a five speed.
we raced and i beat him off the line and won by four cars up to 100mph.
no one was out and it was late, and i had the top down, and man i agree. that mustang 4.6 has a good sound to it with a set of flow 40s he had on there. with the top down i heard his car over mine and i have headers and muffler delete.

at the time was runnin stock rear and gear with no SC but was a good race, my a4 with the 3/4 clutch slippin and his 5m and it being a newer car he hadnt adjusted to yet. he heated tires, i didnt.
we did another go, from 40mph, and it was alot closer, only won by a car, if that.

ya i raced a few mustang guys around here who had the simalar excuses if not worse, you should tell him to invest in a pair of head phones and a tap and die set so he can tap into the block, so he can avoid not being able to hear when to shift on his car next time.

That's the problem with those GT's. They look freakin awesome and sound great, but it takes so much to get good hp out of it. I saw one in one of the Stang magazines that had a fully built motor with an F1 blower with 20 PSI that was only putting out like mid 600's to the ground. That's just unsat.

I'd guess in the 250-260rwhp range, but every car is different.

I've also seen a TT '04 Mustang putting like 800 to the ground with only like 8 psi.

Listening to the motor for shift points is much more accurate than using a tach.

Hell yes, I just picked up a set of 3.42's and can't wait to get them in. I'm guessing by your post it was a descent jump from the 2.73's.

Oh and by the way nice kill.

As gay as that excuse sounds I believe it. Cause it happened to me one time. But I was playing chase behind my buddies 95 Gt (bennett 397 stroker). I couldn't hear my motor and I was concentrating on the road. I looked down and saw 7500rpms. Whoops. Good kill though. -Mark

It really depends on the tune. Maybe 300 at the crank from the stock 260 but not at the wheels.

Well he has an old, tired engine. With all those mods (considering its an o/r H-Pipe) he might have picked up 15rwhp. Through an auto Id say hes lucky to hit 245.
