If the track had a section for roll racing...
Would you think people would be more inclined to go?
I would say most likely yes because the main reason I dont like the track is cause I have no traction and roll races are the most fun for me.
Lets say they had a 2 mile long strip... 1/4 mile to get up to speed, 1 mile to race, 1 mile to shut down... What do you guys think?
They can calculate ET from starting/stopping mph and gives us traction challenged folks a way to have fun at the track too.

Ummm, ahhh, NO. If I had so much money tied up in my car that it was so powerful, I would spring for DRs or slicks.
Speeds would be too high, unmanagable, braking issues, not enough real estate, etc. A lot of cars have poor gearing for over 130mph anyway.

Roll racing???
If you need traction get a better suspension set up or some wider tires.. The money it would take to make and maintain a 2 1/2 mile track would be ridiculous..

I agree totally. I just didn't want to be "that" Mustang owner to say it. I figure I'd let a GM owner say it if anyone was going to. Roll racing is ******* gay...period.

i think mustangs are effin gay period. but does that make me go into your threads and troll? no! so dont troll this dudes dream of roll racing. just because he is traction impared doesnt me he is any less a man! my god. . . . what has this world (cough) website, come too?
haha but seriously roll racing is pretty stupid, **** why dont you just roll race in a circular track and call is nascar?
and the gearing point is very true. after about 115 or so most vehicles just have terrible gearing because they need that extra umf from the lower set gears. plus alot of cars will top out by like 130 or so with an auto 4 speed and low enough gears.

Everyone who scoffs at it has never had to drive a 700+ hp car and "attempt" to get traction. Theres way more to it than adding DRs or slicks or some suspension work. In my SS I could roast drag radials all the way through third gear on the street by just getting moving and then nailing it, no clutch dumping.
I feel you on the roll races, Id much rather do that type of run than risk blowing up multiple parts of my car "attempting" to get it to hook at the track.

Negative for me on the roll racing idea at the track.
Wrong.

A track that is supposed to be being built in the next town over from me is rumored to have a mile strip. Thats enough room to get some first gear rolls in, safer than running on the street, I've heard worse ideas.

Roll racing is great on the street - you immediately see who's quicker with less exposure to trouble and many times lower overall speeds.
Figure most of our cars, if the launch is somewhat botched, it's 1/8th of a mile at over 80mph before catching up and passing the car you could beat. That's a lot of time on the clock....

Hooking up a big HP car is probably harder than getting the HP. Its not done easily. Just look at the big HP cars that run crappy numbers because the can't come out of the hole. As far as a track for roll racing I wouldn't go to see it or participate in it. Just my .02.

Part of the skill of racing is knowing how to launch, getting your timing right at the tree and knowing how to set up your car to get traction. This "roll race " idea is junk. Who the **** can't go from a 50 MPH roll and accelerate in a straight line. Where the **** is any skill envolved? The person who came up with organized roll races is probally the first person to slap a wing and stickers on a Civic or put a "GTR " emblem on his Mustang(see this forum for that story, lol). It's cool to get into a race from a roll on the hwy because there is no safe way to dead stop adn launch, but at a contolled enviroment track, that crapis unnessecary. What'd really make me take notice is a 3 to 5 mile strip for top speed testing. 0-200 sounds much more fun than two goobs starting at 50MPH and ending at 100mph a half a mile away.

I get so sick of people bitching about roll racing, not everyone lays awake at night dreaming about a drag strip. I would run DR's on mine but due to big 20 inch rear tires no one makes one. I would have most definitely bought a fox body if I only wanted to drag race.
For me most of my races , are always from a roll. Its me coming down the freeway and some manner of euro trash desperate to prove something.

I bitch more about the "organized" roll racing than the spare of the moment hwy kill. The "organized" RRs have spawned lots of set up races that are staged , each participant taking vid of the other car, each car gets "wins" on vid so they can go to their respective forums and have bragging rights, until it so happens that some members are on both forums and recognizes the cars...lol. Anyways, no bad will towards the hwy hookup races, I just don't see the point in organized roll racing.
