Ran a GT500 last night..nice car

all these new cars are starting to make the gt500 just a little bit lighter, especially considering its got a heavy *** blower and DOHC

I don't think you are correct. MMFF got 12.2 out of the GT500 stock. I don't think a car that weighs as much with 123 less BHP is going to run a 12.2even with sticky tires. The 07 427R runs 13.0 on stock tires and to my knowledge is not available with an auto.
You have a link to that MMFF article?

Yea, the camaro will share the Holden chassis with the g8. Between 3800 and 4100 is the rumor. Depends if GM has an SS version if it will compete with the SRT8 or the GT500. Certainly one would think the LS7 or LS9 would be in the SS.

Base curb weight on a 1996 C4 Corvette - 3,298 lbs. /300-330HP
Base curb weight on a 2003 C5 Corvette - 3,248 lbs. /350HP
Base curb weight on a 2007 C6 Corvette - 3,179 lbs. /400HP
Base curb weight on a 2007 Z06 Corvette - 3,132 lbs. /505HP
Base curb weight on a 1996 Mustang GT - 3,275 lbs. /215HP
Base curb weight on a 2003 Mustang GT - 3,275 lbs. /260HP
Base curb weight on a 2007 Mustang GT - 3,575 lbs. /300HP
Base curb weight on a 2007 Shelby GT500 - 3,920 lbs. /500HP
So over the last 12+ years, while everything else seems to be turning into a bloated pig, the Corvette is dropping weight while increasing HP and improving the handling, road feel, interior, etc.
BMW just royally screwed the new M3 for that reason. Yes, it's got 414HP now but it also now weighs like 3,600-3,700 lbs. and has lost most of the agility and other things that made it great.

maybe someone fell asleep for a second..., in the hands of a half decent driver a stock LS2/3 C6 Vette should run mid 12's all day long on just the stock run-flats. A really good driver can get that closer to 12 flat.

Well the GT500 and Corvette aren't meant to compete, regardless of how car magazines and dealerships like to paint them as "rivals." Completely different cars, for completely different experiences.

I agree, car mags have to sell copies and what better way to do that then paint the Mustang and Corvette as rivals. In a straight line they run similiar times and too many people are too focused on that aspect. On a track, they are two different things. I'm pretty sure when Ford built the GT500 they weren't looking at the Corvette and going "how do we smoke them in any arena??". The Corvette is built to be a top of the line performance car on the road, in a straight line, or on a track. To be honest, it rides better on the highway then my wife's 330i and it gets better gas mileage.

Sweet, have fun with that. The C5's ride good as well, but I've had many C5's owners tell me that the C6 is even better from a road feel/manner standpoint. GM did a nice job of improving the car from one model run to the next. If you haven't driven one before you really own it to yourself to do so, especially an 08.

I hope so too. I'm not sure what car makers are trying to accomplish, but thinking you can just throw a big motor w/ good looking HP numbers into a car that's a bloated pig and have it work well just isn't reasonable. Yes, it may go fast in a straight line but as soon as you hit a corner you're screwed. Porsche and GM (in terms of the Corvette) are about the only one who keep increasing HP while trying to keep the car at the same weight. Here's some good numbers:
/300HP

Safety ratings. The vette has very strong but light materials (expensive) used in a physically small car. Unfortunately I am of the opinion that we are seeing the new 'muscle car era' come to an end due to oil prices and a slowing economy. A 4000 pound SS version of the 2010 camaro may never make it to a showroom. I hope i'm wrong.
