Default front sway bar question once again

Ok I was told from some old schoolers to remove my heavy *** front sway bar better weight distribution less race weight. I had a 3rd gen years ago and removed it I swear that thing weighed 50 lbs. Anyways I jacked up my 94 loosened all the bolts flexed my muscles with the anticipation of it being heavy and to my surprise it weighed about 5 lbs. My question, Is all 4th gen camaro front sway bars hollow? Without the sway bar on my car drives like *** feels sloppy up front in my opinion not worth taking it off.

Taking it off is fine for the drag strip but as you have experienced, not such a good idea for driving around on the street.

Take it off, its not wieght reduction, its a suspension mod that allows the front to rise faster, transfering much more wieght to the back wheels for a longer period of time.

Front sway bar delete is a must for drag racing . I leave mine off all the time, bc it doesn't bother me at all on the street. The only thing it impacts is body roll, my car handles the twisties just fine. If your an autoxer, you mite not ever consider it, but try it at the strip once and you'll be hooked.

These assclowns prolly never even took theirs off.

All OEM front bars on 4th gens are hollow. You save very, very little weight by leaving it on. If you want to maximize your weight transfer, just unhook on end link then the bar can't work, but it's easily hooked back up for the street.

And I have driven cars without a front bar on, and would never in a million years choose to street drive a car like that unless I was only driving down the street for milk.

FWIW, some 3rd gen front bars were hollow, some were solid. None are near 50 pounds. The heaviest front bars are on the order of about 27. Stock is about 10-12 on a 4th gen.

haha assclowns thats funny. Yes i've driven an f-body on the street with no front swaybar and yes it handled like dogshit. If your trying to make the car into a dragster, take it off. if you actually like to drive it keep it on. I bet the argument above is coming from someone who daily drives a car with slicks and skinnies.

yea I exaggerated on the 50lbs lol I may take the advice and just take it for the track didn't seem like made much diff in weight but can see the advantage of letting the frontend rise faster.

It only "rises faster" because the lack of a bar allows the car to roll more and unweight that LF wheel faster/better--has nothing to do with the loss of 10-20 pounds when the front of the car is over 2000 lbs.

I agree... if the car is being drag raced only. I'm just saying if he wants to make life easy and have the bar for the street (and he should) and to disconnect it at the track he needs only pull one link off.

Pounds count, but if we aren't talking about a race only car, let alone one with say a big stereo, heavy wheels or other things that are about comfort, I don't think it's wise to remove the bar and leave it off because the street manners and stability are greatly sacrificed if you drive the car harder than you typical grandmother around corners.

I left the sway bar on my drag car. It seems to transfer the weight more evenly, go straight when the front touches back down, and it goes down the track straight. Anyone ever watch a car torque to one side all the way down the track? To each his own though.

now the rear sway bar.....My drag bar wasnt in yet and I scrambled to make LSX 08, and I ran my car with no rear sway bar...talk about twisting

It never made a full pass anyways

ya my car is barely driven on the streets and if it is driven, i use my common sense to be extra cautious seeing that i have a lil more body roll and not as good of handling around turns as with the swaybar

doesnt bother me the way it drives either. its all about the 'straight line'

I'm with Strano. A nice car like a 4th gen FBody should be more than a quarter mile drivetrain test vehicle. In a perfect world, you should be able to drive coast to coast to rallys, make a 10 second pass, pull 1g skidpad runs, get +20 mpg, and get you laid after partying like a rockstar in it.. not necessarily in that order. The true beauty of these cars is the versatility bred into them in thier history and technology advances. And your world is only what you make of it.
I dig the part where I can stuff a full JCM900 Marshall rig, rack box, 2 guitars, and my chica in it, and still kick *** on just about anything else on the road enroute to the gig. lol
