Default Odd idea...more steering angle from a 4th gen?

like it says, looking for ideas on getting more steering angle from the front end...not much room to modify the knuckles, so im not sure how to accomplish this feat

+1 I'd love to find a way to accomplish this... Perhaps a quicker ratio also... I'm sure strano could chime in here.... Perhaps this dream us fool hearted but I'd love an answer before I put my 4th gen back together

I often need to make tight turns in the city and I just use the rear wheel steering. Mash the accelerator down all the way and the car turns on a dime.

If you really want to change things, you'll first need to go to narrower tires, which may have unintended consequences.

lol ive never had that much hair! and everyone knows that us ls1 4th gens are not associated with mullets

this is more of a drift experiment...everyone knows we can drag and road race, but seeing an fbody slide is something unique.

took it to an event last weekend...did pretty well, but these things just get no angle sideways...well controllable angle that is

What are you looking to do with the increased control of steering? Are you just looking to make U-Turns on normal streets, turn-offs after drag races, etc?

The catch is the stock wheel/tire size. If you can alter that, you might be able to change the geometry.

I think at full lock the tire is pretty close to the A arm, so you'd need to get around that, find out if the rack can go any further or source a rack that can, run new power steering lines, and maybe remove some of the plastic lining in the fenderwell. I'm not sure if anything in the column limits the number of rotations in one direction, I know in some cars it is.

I think it's possible but a lot more work than most people would think, I'm not huge into drifting but I think it would be really nice

it appears to be the geometry in the steering...im gonna find some ls1 knuckles and modify them to see if i can get the factory steering to do more. its a very popular thing to do on the s chassis, and every company in the universe sells the stuff, but no one loves fbodies

Can you go with a smaller wheel up front? You could even run a lower pressure when drifting to get a wider contact patch and more traction. A smaller wheel/tire would be less diameter and should give you more room in the well.

i dont think ive conveyed my theory here

stock steering angle is like 29* vs say an s13 which has ~50*

im not worried about wheels fitting i want them to turn in/out farther

Forza......sorry thats just the only way i accomplished this task.

Hmm. maybe you will have to put a front end(axle, shocks, etc) from a drifter, mod to fit on your car and fine tune it.

Or find someone who can help you Fabricate/come up with a part or idea to help.

Regardless good luck dude, im really intrested in how this turns out b/c i wanna drift mine too.

Right, if you do a mod with those big *** wheels on the front, it won't work, unless you push them so far out that you look like the bat mobile in battle mode.

If you put smaller wheels on, (In diameter and width) it will be easier to modify things so the wheels will turn in the stock wells.

If I were you, I'd start with some cardboard cutouts of different sized wheels to give you an idea of what the stagger will look like and to get a taste of how things will work in the wheel well.

ive only got 17" zr1's up front with lots of clearance all the way around, and still enough room for a 2" spacer to get them out and still be under the fenders

I modded my upper mounts, and the rack. Had to remove the wheel liners for full movement. That and the LPE 2step are the best things I did for drifting
