Default Cheap C5 Brake conversion

I've seen C5 conversion kits for 4th gens go anywhere from $700-$900+. That's including calipers, rotors, pads, brackets Would it be cheaper to buy replacement C5 Calipers for around $80 (each) new, then just buy the brackets, pads, and rotors from one of the vendors here. Is there anything special that comes in these kits that makes my idea implausible? I'm just trying to save money where I can.

The biggest thing to the C5 kit is the brackets that convert it. Once you have the brackets all the other items are parts directly off the the Corvette and can be purchased from a GM dealer, online, junyard and even some at your local parts store.

If you purchase the UMI brackets they are supplied with a detailed list of all the other items you need including GM part #'s. Below is a link to the UMI brackets. If you have any questions please ask and we will be glad to help.

I hope this helps,

Call up the various shops that modify Vettes in-house and see what OEM brake stuff they have 'laying around'. Some customers that have their brakes upgraded leave the parts with the shops.

Or you can resuse you calipers, buy a mounting bracket (or make your own), get C5 rotors and get fbody pads to save you more $$.

if you use the UMI brackets, can't you just use the stock fbody calipers?

From what I have gathered, yes you can reuse the stock calipers. The C5 and fbody calipers are relatively the same. They share the same mounting holes.

Unless you track the car HARD, a C5 upgrade my only be a benefit due to the larger rotor diameter. I doubt you see a benefit keeping stock Fbody rotors and using C5 caliper.

I'm contemplating doing one of the following:
1)Keep LS1 Fbody caliper, get the C5 conversion mounting bracket and run a C5 rotor with HPS/HP+ pads
2)Run C5 rotor+caliper and get the C5 mounting bracket with HPS/HP+ pads
3)Keep my LS1 Fbody setup and just run a blank/slotted rotor and a HPS/HP+ pads

Just get the brackets, pads, and rotors. Reuse your calipers.

My only gripe with the C5 brackets is that once you go that route you can not go back to the stock setup.

Once you gain the benefit of better braking why regress back to OEM?

If you ever sell the car and can get back some money on individual parts.

Anyone have this setup? - UMI bracket, Corvette rotor, stock LS1 F-Body calipers?
Do I need to get the C5 caliper bracket/ abutment,if I keep the LS1 calipers?
