Default Recommendation of tires for daily driver?

I need some recommendations for a daily driver who wants some traction on the street while at takeoffs and will see minimal track action....they will be going on a 17x9.5 setup with 17x11 out back....I also want to know handling in wet weather since its a daily driver and that's my main concern...I hear people tell me drag radials are a risk in the rain so I need input...I want to go with nittos but which ones ..... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Since you've got a different front/rear setup I think I'd go with the BFGoodrich KDWs or the new Eagle F1s (Euro spec) if they're available. Most people tend to like them the best overall. Are you planning on running P295s or P315s in the rear? Checkout tirerack and look at all the tires you can get in both sizes (you might want to look at a corvette on there to get the front/rear size option) and then spec your front/rear matching sizes.

Do Kumho MX's run in your size? Lotta people love those too!

It has rained here a fair amount recently, and the KDW's do well in the rain.

I recently upgraded from the stock 245/50/16 Goodyear GS-C's to the BFGoodrich KDW's in a 275/40/17 and they are excellent in the rain. This truely is a great tire for dry and wet traction.

I plan to run some 315 out the back and some 275 for the front....so then I shouldn't go with drag radials at all correct?.....Well are the BFGoodrich more expensive?......which ones could I get .....I really just need info for the back ones....I'll get regular tires for the front..but your input is appreciated.......

THANX!

I agree, the KDW's are great, not much rain here, but they are great when it does rain.

Drag radials are designed for straight line performance. They are not designed to autocrossed or any type of spirited driving similar to that. I would stick with the KDW tire for daily driving. If you want drag radials go on E-bay and pick up an extra set of rims dirt cheap and mount them on those rims. I picked up a set of four 16 x 8 rims for $200.00 and have a set of 255/50/16 bfgoodrich drag radials with a set of kuhmo 712 for the front to keep the tire diameter the same.

I have 86K on my Daily Driver. Khumo 712's are my choice! Can't beat the look or perf in wet/dry conditions.

Just put on 4 KDW's,they are better than the RSA's when it is wet but there is still no traction to speak of, they spin as long from a roll and are louder. IMHO

For street use I have really liked my Dunlop SP 5000s. Got them at Sears at a great price. Great tread life.

I've got 275/40 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's up front and 315/35 Nitto Drags on the back. They handle great in both dry and wet weather. (Infinately better than the stock GSCs did)

I did quite a bit of looking before I bought new rear tires for my formula and here's kind of what I came out with.

BFGoodrich KDW, I couldn't find one in a 315/35.
BFGoodrich KD, looked great for dry cornering, reviews looked to be a noisy tire though.
Sumitomo HTR-Z, inexpensive tire, good summer tire, horrible when the weather gets cold.
Goodyear GSC, I didn't like them stock, I definately wouldn't buy more.
Dunlop SP8000, seems to be a decent tire, but noisy.
BFG Drag Radials, horrible in the rain.
Kumho Victoracer v700's, great dry traction, OK wet weather traction. Since it's a roadrace tire, 5,000 mile max life.
Nitto 555R, great dry traction both cornering and straight line, wet straight line traction is OK, cornering in rain is plenty decent, expected decent wet/dry tread life is ~10-12k miles, total tire life is ~15k miles.

My biggest deal with tires was the cost. Since I have NEVER gotten more than 15,000 miles out of a set of Z-Rated tires, I'm very hesitant to spend $300 per tire. The BFG KD, Goodyear F1, Michelin Pilot Sport, and Yokohoma AVS Sport were all in the 300+ per tire bill.

The only tire that has come available after the fact that I would have considered is the Pirelli P7000, they're a pretty nice tire, but I don't think they would hold up well behind a 400rwhp M6 Car.

FWIW, I had 315/35 Kumho Victoracer v700 Road Race tires before I got the nittos. The handling difference was minimal at best (the nittos actually do better in the wet weather). There are also plenty of people who autocross on a regular basis with 315 Nittos.
I also ran on the nittos going to SLP day here back a month ago. Drove 230ish miles each way in the rain at 80+ mph the whole way with no issues. A couple weeks ago I went cruising around college station, hit lots of backroads and I had ZERO problems keeping up with the guys in the front through the twisties. (While the weather was dry and wet... damn weather shift)

I have every intention of buying another set of 315 nittos when this set is all ate up.
