If I reverse phase my exhaust washers...will i get more sound and better tone out of my exhaust. Or would it be better to just get washer with more lift and duration so I actually get better power and better sound? last thing I want to do is end up with one of those V-Tech washers and go around looking like a ricer.

I'll have to be honest and admit tha I'm way in over my head doing the flat washer mod. My T/A is a 100% street car and a guy that runs low 9's was telling me to install the biggest and baddest washer that I could afford. He told me that it would be very worthwhile to get a washer with lots of duration and to make sure I have it gun-drilled to save on weight. Then he told me about how he went the "custom" route and had his made from ARP 2000 material and had a local machine shop "deck it" .010 to be sure its flat and bore it 30 over in case he ever goes with a bigger bolt. So right now I'm just doing some research.

dont confuse washers and bushings, what you used was a bushing it just makes things fit tighter

Well after a lot of research I’ve narrored down my choices for washer selection to one offering. It is a [G5X~3,000,000] from LG Motorsports with a requested full 360 degree duration for both the top and the bottom of the washer. I know it sounds extreme but apparently all of the big dogs are secretly running this washer configuration. I just hope its not too big because I daily drive my car. It's also .300" thick which should be good for nitrous. Do you guys think I can daily drive it or is it too big? Rather than restating the same question 12 times in 12 different threads hoping for some different responses I want to be upfront with you guys so I would like at least 12 different responses before I order it. You can PM me if you want.

Do washers come in grades like bolts? I'd stick with at least a grade 8 washer if they did.

I would never use a mil-spec washer. You have to read dozens of boring specs and requirements, go through acquisition committees, spend 100x times their real worth, procure 50x more than you need, then find out they are the wrong ones. Or the contractor changed where they manufacture them so they have to go through the qualification process all over again.

On the plus side, I have finally finished my closed loop testing of my upgraded washer set. Next week, I plan on going to the track and start the open loop testing of the upgraded washer set. Wish me luck.

Well I ordered my washer and it turns out that it wasn't nearly as expensive as I though it would be so I customized mine to be made from ARP L-19 material. At this point I still had some money left over so I went ahead and ordered a 2nd washer. The problem I'm having now is trying to figure out where the best location is to put the 2nd washer is. I've read that a 50/50 weight distribution is not optimal in a muscle car. I put the first washer in the rear-end (can't ever be to carefull with the 10 bolt) since ARP L-19 has an ultimate tensile strength of 265,000psi it should really add some strength to the rear. So, two questions: Will my 10 bolt break and where should I put the 2nd washer?

well, ive been informed by several reputable non-drag racers that its stupid to have drag car power unless you upgrade your brakes to the size of 14" washers with massive 6 washer calipers.

so to make your brakes stronger, i suggest you put the washer there.

It is well known that the 10 bolt washer will break under any type of serious power. When it does, A4s normally go to a 12 bolt washer. However, since you have a M6, you should go to the 9 inch washer. Some go to the Dana 60 washer, but fitment can be an issue.

Are there any part numbers out yet for the LS3 washers? Will they fit in place of my LS1 washers?
