Default Put too much grease on brake pads. Leaving streaks on rotors!

I put a little too much grease on the insides of my brake pads to prevent squealing and now they're leaving residue on the rotors. Is there any way I can fix this without having to take the calipers off again? Is there something I can spray that will just get rid of all the extra grease? I figured if I keep cleaning it off the rotors that eventually there won't be an over excessive amount of grease as the pads will run out. Am i being confusing?

not to be an *** but you do realize that the anti-squeal grease DOES NOT go on the (friction material) inside of the pad, the part the goes against the rotor but rather on the outside of the pad that goes against the caliper

i think that would be the only way to get that grease on the rotor is if you put it on the side of the pad that contacts the rotor... if you put it on the side that touches the caliper you must have really loaded that thing up.

you could spray brake fluid on the rotor and then wipe it down. You have to be very carefull, and will probably have to do it more than once. I would definatly take the wheel off to do this.

The anti-squeak grease should only go on the back of the pad which faces the caliper. There was another thread on here about this a week or two ago. The consensus in that thread was that the pads may have been ruined.

Yeah the pads are contaminated, throw them away and replace with new pads.

You might want to try some nickel based anti-seize on those brake pads. That will ensure zero brake dusting, and no rotor heat discoloration. I am quite sure you will not have any squealing either. Just be careful - a little goes a long way.

Not responsible for any accidents due to brake failure.

Doh! I actually had a sales monkey at Advanced Auto Parts tell me that the little pack of anti squeak grease they try to sell you at the register goes on the pad surfaces. I tried correcting him but he didn't believe me. You obviously didn't read the instructions did you.

say, what do you guys think i should use to clean the rotor surfaces to remove all the grease. it doesn't look like theres any now but i'm sure there is a light film of it on the surface.

they're baer rotors, i really don't want to ruin them!

quick drying brake clean and maybe rubbing alcohol before.

I just use alittle silcone paste on the where the pads touch the calipers, also i use that same stuff on the metal shafts where the calipers ride on, works pretty good.

I have seen that disk brake quite stuff, and I have a spray can of it i believe never used it so i never read about it either.

I've probably done 100+ brake jobs since the start of the year and I never use that brake squeal crap. I MIGHT have been necessary 20 yerars ago but not today. Brake pads are made with better compounds that prevent it. There are things that can happen to cause brake squeal, but that crap they try to sell you won't stop it.

Fact is most brake squeal problems are caused by mistakes made installing brake pads, manufacturing problems with the pads, or just plain cheap pads. Save you money.

WHY WOULD YOU PUT GREASE ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR BRAKE PADS????????????????????

No, its the pads sqirming against the caliper piston or outer frame (depending on which pad is causing the noise). This metal-on-metal squirm can lead to noise. Also, some pad compounds are noisier than others. For example, carbon-metallic pads are inherrently noisy do to their metallic component. Again... metal-on-metal contact. Many pads also have an anti-squeel shim on the back which is supposed to make anti-sqeel grease unneccessary, but adding some doesn't hurt.

BTW, like said before, brake anti-squeel grease should only go on the back of the pads facing the caliper, never on the friction surface facing the rotor.

Then explain to me why three out of five of my car the damned brakes squeak?
