What can happen if I don't pay a red light ticket?
Ok, so during Hurricane Ike, I was at my dad's house in Arlington. Well, apparently, i was hit by a red light camera going northbound down Cooper. Thing is, I REMEMBER that. I was turning right on red, and it STILL flashed me. I swear... I've never seen so many red light camera flashes in my life. Seems like EVERYONE in Arlington was getting hit.
Anyways, I got something in the mail a while back saying I had to send them $80 by so and so date, blah blah blah. I ignored it, and now that $80 turned into $100. also, the letter says I can't get my car registered, and they can file a civil suit against me. Is any of this true?

they will send you a couple letters demanding payment, and then it will go to an Attorney from which significant fees will be added. After that point if not paid they can put a stop on your ability to register your vehicle.

I think its wrong for them to deny you your registration. So if someone owes me money, I can't tell the TXDOT to withold their registration renewal, so why should the city have that right or authority? If thats the case, then give the ticketing fines generated to the state.

There was something on the news last week, saying that the companies that installed the cameras didn't have a permit to install them, so actually they're illegal. So alot of people may be receiving refunds. Turns out an attorneys wife got a ticket, and refused to pay it, he looked up alot of constitutional ****, and found some loopholes.

Those things usually come with a link to the pics. Even if you were turning right on red you have to stop first. I believe in Texas you have to be still for 4 seconds for it to be considered stopping. I'd just pay it. The time you will spend jacking with it is worth more than $100

Speaking of cameras, I was originally told that if you went in excess of 140 mph through a toll center that it could not get you in time....I tried it and was wrong...got a ticket and my license plate was clear as clear can get. i have since been told that it is actually in excess of 170...whos going to try it?
The registration will be blocked after a period of time if you do not pay the fine....on average, there is a $250 fine added once the collection Attorney gets hold of it.
