Default Registration laws?

I am moving to Houston next week for school. I will be there for a year and then will be moving back to Delaware. Will i be able to leave my car registered and tagged in delaware? Or will have to get texas tags? Thanks

You can keep your tags for Delaware

Im pretty sure you can just leave the delaware tags on, since you are here for school i would think you will be ok until your state inspection expires.

My fiance has lived here for almost 9 months and hasnt had any issues with her VA tags or license.

if you leave your old tags on then keep your old license and don't get a tx dl... you can just tell the cops you are visiting or whatever... you might as well keep your current insurance too because if you get insurance here, when you show proof it will have your current residence which will tell the cop you live here and then you might get tickets for no license, inspection, and registration... i think it would be easier to just get it registered and inspected here and get a tx dl

Hmm. How bad are the inspections in TX? It seem i would be fine leaving everything except i will be getting an account at a bank down there. Will they let me open a account for the address i will be living down there even thought my licence has a delaware address on it?

if you're gonna be driving the car in your sig you will definitely need a hookup on an inspection and it will be a cop magnet... i'm not sure about the bank account thing, but i think it would probably be ok if it was a large chain bank like bank of america, capital one, chase, etc

tint on the back window doesn't matter... you could paint it black if you wanted to haha... the 2 front windows can be 20% for inspections but cops can write you a ticket for anything less than 35%... the city and state laws are different which is gay, they should have one set limit... on the windshield you can have the top tinted but it can't go below the as1 line on the window... you have lots more to worry about than the tint... emissions is what you should be worried about... like i said you will have to find someone that will hook you up in order to get it to pass... pretty cool car though

Thanks. Not sure how the emissions are there but here they test pollution at idle and a 3000rpms. My car passed buy alot here. It polluts less than my old 90 K1500 305 did. Its just a stock 03 zo6 cam with just 9 to 1 compression.

You can do a "for registration purpose only" on the car but you will need the inspection done first on it.
