Post Anoyone know anything about this car? Houston

Went to look at it today, sounds really healthy but claims its a 408. He bought it from some guy named Raymond. At the time it had TT2 on it besides those huge wheels.

He has no paperwork saying its a 408, and the heads are 806 castings.

I don't know how to tell if its a true 408. Anyone know anything about this car?
The new owner doesn't know anything, he bought it because it "sounded good"

Here is the CL ad..

see if its an iron block since most 408's are made that in that manner.

806 are the perimeter bolt (valve cover) IIRC, which would mean it has original heads or some original ported heads. There are much better choices out there.

Is rap music to blame for those wheels?

You could challenge him to an NHRA tear down? Not sure how your really going to tell whats in the motor with out taking it apart. If he can't really prove it, and you can't tell in a feasible manner, then just assume it doesn't have it.

i sold an ten bolt zexel-torsion 3.42 out of an 02 SS to a "Raymond" in Houston july 2009. Raymond said he drove an LS bird, and it was pretty heavily modded. He was a big black dude, pretty cool guy from the 30 min i talked to him. From talking to him it seems like the mods on his car were done correctly, dont remember motor size sorry, but he also talked like he beat the **** out of his car.

not sure if thats the same guy, might be who knows? if the rear is a 3.42 ten bolt its probably the same car.

uuummm i could be wrong but on an ls1 if you throw a 4 inch crank in it comes out to a 383 on an LQ9 6.0 the cylinder bore is bigger which with a 4 inch crank should make it a 408, ls2 with a 4 inch crank i believe is 402 so if it has an ls1 unless he re-sleeved it and punched it out i think hes bsing you. i could be wrong though.

if its a 6.0 lq9 usually they're a black color and usually have a little rust unless its super clean but you can tell by just looking at the block i believe the 6.0 is stamped on the back of the block so unless you pull it out you wont know. if the dude doesn't have any paper work on any of the **** done id ask him where it was done at, see if you can talk to the shop that built it, ive seen this **** happen before people sell a tapped out ls1 with a big cam and claim it to be some kind of forged beast then a month after you buy it and it blows up while you beating on it cause you think you have a forged motor when all you have is a 150k mile stock motor with a big cam and headers. most of the people i know that put that knid of money in a car to build it up usually have some type of folder that they keep all there information in, i mean hell at least receipts for the parts that he claims it has in it.

think about it without a 408 and all that crap he mentioned that car is worth at least 3gs less than what hes asking i would be leary, who spends the money to build a 408 and leaves those junk *** 98 (806) heads on it???????
