Default If I were to sell my 31K mile OEM LS1....

out of my SS...what would it be worth? I'm thinking hard about building a motor....nothing fancy...just a forged short block with good heads and a mid range cam. I'm debating on weather to pull my motor and build it or sell it outright and build one from the block up. If this were a 130K mile motor I'd just build it but seeing as well kept low mile LS1's are hard to find I figured there would be a market for it. I'v never owned an F body and don't consider myself an expert.
Specifics...the motor is completely stock...never opened up and never tuned. The car has a few bolt ons...LT headers and an CAI... I bought the car 1k miles ago factory stock with a paper filter still in it. I would probably have a compression and leak down done to help prospective buyers make an informed purchase.
Any input is welcome.

If you don't need the cash, set it in the corner and forget about it till you need it.

is that the minty one that was for sale recently in Pfluegerville? man that car was nice. i was gonna buy it but i couldnt talk myseld into it bc the last thing i would want to do is start loosening bolts on that gem. ^^^what he said. i would pull it and set it to the side and wait for one of those gotta have it offers to come through. some people are paying 1500 for long blocks with more (unverified) miles.

Truth. I don't need the cash however storing a motor in my garage isn't exactly doable either. Only way I'd ever need it is if I did a LS swap Fox Body or similar. In that case I'd probably build a new motor anyway. Might just throw her on eBay and see what happens. Thanks for the input!

Ebay? Why bother dealing with shipping qnd stuff? Sure, the buyer pays for it, but you'd still most likely have to pack it for shipping etc. Just post it for sale here or on Craigslist for somewhat locals to buy amd see what that brings.

Maybe the market has changed, but I bought a sub-30K mile 02 LS1+T56 combo w/everything for 3500 a couple of years ago. I think just a motor is worth 1500-2000, depending whether it has accessories, ECM and wiring harness or not. Which I assume in OP's case is not the case since it sounds like he is going with another LS1.

So, 1700-1800 due to the low miles, IMO. If you get more, more power to you.

Excellent. Great info. I'd use ebay just to test the market. A local sale on CL would be optimal for sure.
I'm not 100% sure weather I'm gonna build an LS1 or something else and I don't know what bearing that has on the wiring harness and whatnot. I do know I'd put all new "stuff" on the motor and let all the used stuff go with the motor.
Thanks again!

There was a low 24k mile ls6 posted in the classifieds here for 1400 or 1500. Didn't sell for a whole, my buddy ended up getting it for 1200.

Long block. And yes I mean ls6.

So I think 750 or so would be reasonable for a ls1

Don't listen to this guy. His buddy just ran across a desperate person. Post it up for 1500 and I bet you get a lot of action on it. $750 is theft.

I also feel $1700-1800 is about right.

If you'd be interested in doing a trade + cash, I have a fresh iron block 408 with a 236/236 114LSA cam, and two choices of heads/intakes to make it a complete engine. I'm up in Chicago, but if you're interested, shoot me a PM.

Nope I'm willing to bet that it doesn't last more than a few months, I'm also in Austin and I can tell ya these yuppies pay stupid prices for stuff. I sold a 5.3 for 1550 with a small cam and an LS6 intake a few months ago.

Well with all the Prius owners here the LSX crowd isn't too big. Slim pickings. Hell I had to drive an hour south just to find an Z28 that's not priced like it ps gold plated.

You know in the end...Austin...Houston...it doesnt matter. People should be willing to pay for a premium price for a premium product. I dont mean *overpay but I know when I go looking for anything I know that to get the quality where I want I might pay a few bucks more. There are a hand full of LS motors for sale at any given time...some with documented low miles...some with high miles...some with unknown miles. In life most of the time you get what you pay for,,when buying a used motor you almost always get what you paid for. Thanks for the heads up. Ill definitely be putting mine up for sale local in hopes of finding a person looking for a nice low mile LS thats sure to run when installed. Ill let you all know how the sale goes. Also...all PM's responded to.

None of them well documented low mile LS1s with super low miles. I do my research very well and I know what these motors can go for.
