I tell you what, if you get me the VIN number which is on the lower left hand corner of the dash and the cowl tag info which is on the upper section of the driverside firewall I will decode it for you. Those numbers will tell you when it was built where it was built, what number it was in production and how it was built at the factory. There is also alot of information on the metal tag with the scalloped edges you have, it's called the POP(protecto plate). Inorder to validate the engine you will need the block casting code numbers and the engine assy code from the front of the passenger side of the block.
You and your dad should really both go to this web site and educate yourselfs about the 1st gens before you do anything to it at all. I know it's his car and he's had it since new and he knows his car but alot has changed since 1978. Go to this web site and ask questions.

The VIN on that title decodes like this. Still need the cowl tag numbers to see how it was built. This car may very well have the broadcast sheet still attached to it. Very carefully reach your hand over top of the gas tank and feel for a piece of paper on top of the tank, that will be the broadcast sheet, LA cars may of had it , Norwood cars would not.

1=Chevrolet
2=Camaro
4=8 cylinder
37=Coupe
9=1969
L=Los Angeles
511581=Vehicle serial number

At each plant the vehicle serial numbers started the year at the following, 500000 for 1969.

That's a nice looking car, so is the blue one posted earlier for trade. I have an X44 also. They're about the easiest to come by as they were nothing special from the factory (fine with me so I can change all I want). Mine was 307 3spd and primer when i got it. I painted yellow w/ black and had 355 w/ ST-10 4spd through highschool and now it's a LT1/T56 swap awaiting an LS1 and a color change.

Threads like this make me wish I put all the money I've put in my 99, into my 69

I ownd it for about 2yrs after spending 9months redoing. I put my share of money into that car! But, I was two deep. I acutally made out on it tho. I did not buy the car to re sell. I was planning on keeping it. Then I came across the car in my sig. Trust me, I miss my 69!!!

You sold that badass black 69 for the 4th gen f-body?

I'm sure you will regret that decision in time

Thanks the Glacier Blue 69 is mine, it's an X11 Norwood car that started it's life as a plain jane(except it's an original 2 tone car)307/PG/non posi car. Now it's a 300HP 350 with 4 bolt mains/TH-350 with a 10 bolt posi, it's as close as you get to an SS without being originally built that way from the factory. All original GM parts were used, the cowl induction is fully functional. The only thing that doesn't work on the car is the horn which I'll fix soon. I didn't buy mine to sell or trade either, I bought it to drive which I do every chance I get.

Nice, I've owned mine since I was 13 (so, 10 years now). Havn't had money or time to work on it the past few years so I'm waiting for graduation then the party starts. So far including ALL setups and everything in my car including buying it, I have maybe 12k in it. I got the car for only $2200 bucks and the interior was already done (except for dash pad) and it drove home.

That glacier blue is an awesome color. One of my favorite for 69 except for Hugger Orange (which mine is originally and shall return).

I know quite a few people with some rare first gens, trying to convince one to sell his original Z10 to me that needs restoration but it might be out of my price range.

I will never sell my car, 4th gens are nice and easy to make quick but they'll never get the attention or have the "feel" of a first gen.

I did not sell the car for the f-body. I ownd both for a bit. The saying is "everything is for sale for the right amount" I have had many camaro's! That car was a flawless car but 30K Plus was all the money!
